Instead of C Am G Am, try playing just C Am C Am, or to sound more like the record, C Am C/G Am (just play C with the low E on the third fret to make the C/G chord) The G is actually being played on the bass and the lead guitar is C Am C Am.

actually if you'll scroll down to the bottom of the tab for this song you'll notice that Derek already pointed that out
