Sorry but you are talking bollocks. TBYML is a stunning album. Her vocals on The Dancer are out of this world.
But she did change her act on stage from playing guitar(bad hair and all) to just doing vocal and looking like a dragqueen from leeds. When she did Dry and Rid of me, i thought that she were the coolest bitch on the plannet She sold out well just a little bit.

i knew there was something wrong with your opinion on "tbml".it's that you pay more attention on her looks than on her music.

and what does this have to do with the music?you either like it or hate it,you can't just change opinion as soon as it gets some attention from mainstream media.i wouldn't care if frank black went on mtv or he got some more airplay.actually it would be great.

It would be nice for FB to get some more airplay but unfortunately, when a band gets that kind of support they often become the playthings of execs and the music begins to fail.

i suppose that this is a risk.depends on how much attention you receive.i wasn't thinking about a christina aguilera-type worldwide promotion, but something like beck or pj harvey or sonic youth.big but not exagerated.

It also depends on the musician; if someone already has a good head on their shoulders they're not going to be as likely to be led into doing things that would compromise their integrity. But, I imagine fame would be a powerful force, much like the Dark Side. Record Execs=Emperor Palpatine, Good artist turned sucky=Anakin Skywalker being corrupted into Darth Vader.

I kind of like they might be giants, and I feel the shame, baby. I like Talking Heads too, but im not so ashamed of that, just that most people haven't heard the first album (which is awesome stuff) and they think it's all synthesizers and crap. |

I agree. The first four LPs... there aren't many bands who had a better four-album run than that. |

4th TH album is the worst IMO. one great song, and 2 or 3 good ones, the rest are pretty boring. I have the first 4 albums, I'm just going to buy the boxset instead of buying the others, which I've heard most of anyway. |

Limp Biscuit,
"I keeid, I keeid" Triumph the ID.
ummm..
Pearl Jam. Even though there band sucks and 90% of the time they put out shit music, Eddie Vedder has a charisma about him. Anyone see the Ralph Nader rallies when he sang "Patriot" & BD's "times are changing"? He tends to get old pretty quickly though... It cycles.

Why would anyone feel sheepish about TMBG?
I confess a terrible fondness for U2's "Achtung Baby."
Barry Manilow is so hilarious that sometimes I can't not listen to him.

My shame? Boston.
I don't own any of their records, but if I stumble onto them on the radio I'll listen. It's mainly nostalgia.
Is polka shameful? It's fun in small doses. |

well since i joined this site i feel ashamed to like belly and the breeders, because people keep making fun of me. and folks often call shitty chick bands breederesque(though i like that term) which pisses me off! but i think of balanced the screachy girl music and masculine rock okay now.
