Devo's Greatest Hits became a part of my CD collection today, and I cannot stop listening to it. This is some infectiously bizarre nerdy music. There are a few similarities between the sounds on these songs and the sounds of Frank Black's eponymous solo debut. I can just imagine this music would have been crazy to hear back in the late 70s/early 80s, cuz it seems pretty amazing now. |

"oh, no! it's DEVO" has the aforementioned "speed racer", and "E-Z Listening Muzak" has the fantacular "peek-a-boo!". "Freedom of Choice" and "Duty Now For The Future" and "Q: Are We Not Men?", awww hell, I'd buy em all if I were you!!!
I also highly recommend "DEVO Hardcore" Volumes 1 and 2, an even greater collection of their greatest (released in 1990/91), and "Greatest Misses"

i truly love Devo. they were so ahead of their time. like you said, their stuff still sounds fresh and exciting today..
i got to see them a few years ago for one of their get-back-together things.. which i was very skeptical about being opposed to bands getting back together. but this was one exception. one of the best concerrts i've been to, to this day.
so much energy.

Has anyone ever seen "Urgh! A Music War"?
Devo were so awesome doing "Uncontrollable Urge"
That is so cool. Wall of Voodo were cool too. I wish they put this out on DVD. |

I had Volume 1 on cassette, but my car stereo ate it.
It's been out of print now for a while, I think. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on it?

You should all go buy Brainiac records. Imagine Devo crossed with the Pixies. Sounds ridiculous, but that's kind of where they were coming from. |

No shit! I would love to get hold of this (even on VHS). I remember renting this from the video shop about 5 or 6 times. It would have been cheaper to buy. I've actually got the double album (on vinyl) and used to play it a lot. Devo were fantastic as were the likes of Spizz Energi (Where's Captain Kirk?) and other great performances by Oingo Boingo, Klaus Nomi and Skafish. |

Yay, Wall of Voodoo! Stan Ridgeway is a madman. The song he did with Steward Copeland for the Rumble Fish film is incredible. |

Always good to hear someone's getting into Devo. A sign that people are still developing brain cells.

I had the pleasure of seeing DEVO in 79 and in 80. They put on a fantastic live show. One of my favorite guitar leads of all time is the one on "Blockhead". Chcek it out. Their early stuff was my favorite and I've got all the albums in vinyl.

There's two Devo covers on the new Snapcase rarities album, I know it shocked me.

Mark Mothersbaugh continues to be cool with his film and TV work. most notably, his scores with Wes Anderson. i love the music in all his films, especially RUSHMORE.
i've heard that in the commercials they do (his company, Mutato Music) they always throw in some kind of subliminal, suversive message. sometimes the companies know about it (and don't care) or don't know about it. and they do some big stuff too..

... And Steaknsabre and I are the proud owners of a Mark Mothersbaugh print. He recently did a tour of his artwork, and sold it for extremely reasonable prices. Our daughter is featured with a Cheese Nips sculpture at his Milwaukee show at his website!!!
We bought the print a) because we really liked it and b) because Devo was a big turning point in our high school musical lives and we really owe Mr M. for this.
