The one Polyphonic Spree album I've heard is an astoundingly gorgeous sounding record, sometimes simple yet sophisticated, at other times complex but not crazy. It's difficult for me to believe this music is arranged by the guy from Tripping Daisy. I never knew much of their music, but based on the little I heard, I didn't think they'd be capable of producing anything like this. |

It's nice to hear a band go completely over the top. White Stripes and all that minimalism is all fine and dandy, but its a relief to hear a record which sounds so huge. See also Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev, well out of step with their time, and all the better for it.
