ladies and gentlemen, i've got a mexican strat, standard enough guitar, three single coil pickups etc., I love the clean sound on it, but when i crank up a bit of distortion it sounds a lot weaker than my les paul.........what would a humbucker, in place of one single coil do ? would I lose the nice clean tone ?
basically, i want the clean sound of a strat, and the heavy distortion sound of a les paul, all contained on my strat.........whats the best humbucker to get ?
This ain't no holiday. |

Seymour Duncan JB is a popular one, but I'm not as much a pickup guru as others.

What I was thinking in the pub is that the Pixies used a Les Paul as the lead guitar and a telecaster as the rythmn guitar which is opposite to what you'd expect. I wonder if this helped the Pixies sound stand out? |

Although I'm coming in way late on this, I recommend the Seymour Duncan JB, Jr. I installed it about a month ago in my Strat--not only did it quiet the hum but the output increased significantly. I usually only use the bride and neck positions, so wasn't to worried about keeping the out-of-phase sound. I have a JB (Sr.) in my ASAT deluxe and I think the Jr. is pretty close.
It was about 70 bucks for the pickup, I believe, at Guitarelectronics.com. |
