Apparently Frank has said in a radio interview that he would reform the Pixies for 5 million dollars, after tax. This doesn't seem like such a huge amount to me. I read a couple of years ago that Abba were going to be offered a BILLION dollars to reform. Does anybody know any exceedingly rich people, or people who are in positions of authority at banks or businesses that might be able to stump up the money?
Obviously the sponsor would hope that the Pixies reconciliation could be made commercially viable by the release of an album, singles and a mammoth tour. It might be hard to recoup expenses from a non-stadium tour playing to the usual grubby indie types who would baulk at paying £30 for a Pixies oversize foam hand. But a few changes to image and style would, I'm sure, reap dividends for the sponsor. The band could wear baggy trousers and dance in formation. Joey could be replaced by Kenny G. David could be shot several times and sell crack when he was 12. Kim could wear cowboy chaps and write "Saucy" across her arse. Frank could bodypop and take vocal coaching from Crai-ig Da-avid. Et voila! The music of yesteryear updated for a new generation.
If only somebody would lend me 5 million bucks, I'm sure this idea's got legs.

Well, it'd be 5 million per member. But I don't think he was really setting a figure, I think he was just trying to imply that it obviously isn't going to happen.

So you can either go to the spacestation or settle for a pixies reunion.

Frank would get 5 million, the rest could have their bus fares to the gigs and a t-shirt.
Money has an incredible motivating quality; Frank might not want to reform the Pixies right now but I bet he'd at least consider it if he was offered 5 million. Money will get people to do just about anything - my extensive collection of barnyard pornography is proof of that.

I think they should do one quick teaser gig, like a half an hour set in front of the press playing only the pixies songs that frank plays live now, and if the promoters want more then they have to cough up.

I'm sure Frank has been offered fairly large sums of money in the past. Surely not 5 million, but according to him he has turned down many offers over the years, some must have been a large amount of money.

but the pixies shouldn't need money to reform, surely it would be enough motiviation just for the sake of ressurecting the best band ever to exist
but then again maybe they just dont see how good they really were
or maybe they want to see how much hype people can create about a reform |

Or if not, there must be cheaper dummer/magicians. What about Paul Daniels - he's not busy at the moment?

Why?
Why do you want Pixies to re-unite??? Frank Black was the creative force behind Pixies. He has made fantastic solo-albums. The rest of Pixies; what have they done??
Frank is better alone

I agree that Frank was the driving force behind the Pixies. I've heard the stories about how there was a power struggle between Kim and Frank and just don't see how that could be true....it's no contest. As for a reunion, it could be really cool but it could also be a disaster. Frank doesn't need the Pixies but the Pixies could not even think about doing anything without Frank....we'll just have to leave this one up to the man himself. As long as he keeps treating everyone to the exceptional albums that he consistently releases then we (his fans) have nothing to complain about. |

I agree. Frank Black dont need Pixies anymore.
He is so used to being the boss and to have a band playing for him, so a reunion would be like "Frank Black and the Pixies"...... And do you guys really think Kim Deal could contribute with anything now?? I remember what happened with The Breathers.....

Remember what happened with the Breeders? They put out several good albums, including one last year. Don't they also have another soon to be released? Kim Deal has much to contribute, probably much more than she did 10 years ago. |

They released two good albums, the first ones. But the one that came out last year!?! Honestly, it was crap. I had high hopes when I listened to it, cause I used to be BIG fan of them (I have seen them live in Oslo, many years ago). But....my my hopes were crushed. No innovation and no spirit..... No, I really believe that Kim Deal have nothing to contribute.

Last night a friend asked me if I would get tickets to the Pixies shows and I said I didn't really care. Cause I don't - and he yelled at me! "One of the most important rock bands!" blah blah blah. If they made a NEW album and were touring to support that - I might go. But the whole concept of a REUNION tour just seems like selling out. And going backwards - and I don't dig that. Frank Black and the catholics is where it's at for me, and I will continue to adore him no matter what he does, but I won't be at any Pixies shows. |

pacer is one great record! damn old neptuna! well it's your opinion, but I think the Breeders-Amps-Kelley Deal 6000-records are great (although it is sometimes a bit too much pixisch to me)

Dude... David rocks... La la Love You is one of my favorite Pixies tunes. Drummer gone singer. He's like Phil Collins with hair. Lay off the guy.

I have heard all the Pixies songs a million times. They were (and are) my favourite band ever.... I first heard them in 1989... and I was hooked.
BUT; Pixies split up more than 10 years ago! They will never be the same, and Frank is doing so GREAT on his own. Pixies today will probably not be anything better than what he is capable on his own.....
But I will give it try, naturally....

Why not? Would you rather have:
A. Two great original bands writing, recording, and releasing new material and touring in support of that material.
OR
B. One great band rehashing old tunes which are already readily available on bootlegs sans the actual live experience (i.e. coming home drenched in sweat, beer, and weed)
I'll take "A"
