Yeah, I'm witcha.

You should check out the movie "Carnival of Souls." I lot of it was filmed on "the shores of Great Salt Lake," and it never fails to remind me of the song.

I really dig the droning two-note hypnosis session that makes up the song's conclusion. Joey's accompaniment rocks every house in my body.

My fave off of Bossanova has to be Ana..... but Is She Weird is also cool.... but so is The Happening, and Havalina is a cool song to end the album, but I can't forget All over the world.... one of the first Pixies tunes I heard. I cannot make a decision, in my opinion Bossanova is a more consistent album than Doolittle.

Bossanova is pure goddess. Personally, I think it's Frank's best vocal performance. Perfect alternating scream (Rock Music)-to croon (All Over the World, Is She Weird)-to beautiful(Ana, Havalina, the end of The Happening)

The first three songs off of Bossanova blow me away every time. I love all three of them equally. The rest of the album, eh...I hate Dig For Fire, it's such an embarassing song to listen to. There are some great songs off that album tho.

Bossanova is definitely my favorite Pixies CD. I don't understand why it doesn't seem to get much respect. The Happening is brilliant. I love how " The Thing" on the Veloria single has more of a Fifties feel to it then it does on the end of The Happening. I also love the use of dynamics on Bossanova. I just fell in love again with Blown Away. What an incredible song. The whole album is great. Bossanova and TOTY is still what I consider Franks's two best albums that he has ever done, with Doolittle and Dog In The Sand right behind them.

Hang wire or allison my favourite from the album, but stormy weather is terrible. Its only good point is when it goes into double time. otherwise i hate that song. rest of the album is brilliant tho.

Bossanova is great. I think one reason some people don't like might be the same as at a reason that I DO like it: it's highly produced and polished, and less "raw" than the earlier albums. That isn't to say that I don't like the raw sound--it works a lot better on some songs, and I'd have to say the less produced versions of, for instance, "Down To The Well" sound better than the Bossanova one. Overall, though, Bossanova has a very grand, full sound to it, and that just draws me to it. The best example of this is my favorite on the album, and possibly my favorite Pixies song of all, "Velouria." To get back to the subject of the thread, though, "The Happening" is also an excellent song, especially the hypnotic ending. The more rocking beginning contrasts with that.

I really loved Down to the Well when I first bought Bossanova (my first FB related release) and I guess i was still sort in that Nirvana-seattle phase, so Down to the Well sounded really rockin to me. Of course I was surprised to find out later that it's looked upon as one of the lesser Pixies tunes. My love for it has wanned a little bit over the years as I realized just HOW GREAT their other stuff is, but I'll always defend Down to the Well. "rocking chair for my soooul"

Down to the Well is my fave. The production on Dig for Fire sounds really 80's to me now. Of all Pixies albums, I think Bossanova has aged the worst--the songs are great, but the arrangements sound dated on some tracks.

the arrangements do sound dated at times, but good songs are good songs and i think the album, although it does sound dated in spots, still holds up well

I agree on the production or whatever you would call it. Isn't it Gil Norton again (like Doolittle)? If so, what happened between the time they were recorded? Bossanova sounds all tinny and shiny and brassy and kinda cheap. I wisht I could hear "Rock Music" or "Hangwire" or "All Over the World," 'cept with Doolittle's thumposity.

My first post ever here, I'm so glad I found a good pixies message board!

My favorite off Bossanova's probably Ana, but The Happening, Down to the well, Havalina, Rock Music, Velouria, and Allison are really great. I can't believe somebody said they hated Stormy Weather! I used that to close my Pixies mix CD, and it is perfect.

velouria is probably my favorite pixies songs ever (if i had to only pick one)....but if we're only doing bossanova songs, then havalina, hang wire, and all over the world are close seconds.

when i convince my wife, our first daughter will be named velouria without a doubt.

but my fave song on bossanova is rock music, followed by the happening and blown away. the happening is an incredible vocal performance, like someone said earlier. it never gets old

still new to the forum thought i'd throw in my two cents:

favorite bossanova songs (least favorite album(that's not to say that it isn't a great great album!!)) (y'like that grammer?): is she weird? and dig for fire. i like the way frank sounds like he's going to explode on the bbc version of is she weird but i miss the trippy guitar from the og version. i just really dig dig for fire. no reason, no rhyme. that's life.
