I haven't been to that many f*ed up concerts but I know there have to be some great stories out there.

I went to see Slipknot and System of a Down on Halloween (the tickets were free and I kinda wanted to see Ramstein who didn't show up anyway - something about their pyro-technics and onstage sexuality being outlawed in MA) and it was pretty f*ed up. I got pushed around a lot and I wasn't even in the moshpit and then some guy bled on my jeans.

When Slipknot came on (God they're terrible) 666 lit up on either side of the stage to the cheers of the crowd. I felt like I was in hell or at least well on my way. At one point the singer goes, "Alright everybody get down on the ground! We're gonna rock the Earth! This is Gonna be Nasty!!! when I count to five you all jump way the hell up in the air. I want to feel this place shake!!!" I had to kneel otherwise I probably would have got my ass kicked. Then he starts counting all slow like, "1" boom boom boom boom, "2!" boom boom boom boom, "3" boom boom boom boom, "4", "FIIIIIVVVVEEE!!! JUMP MUTHAFUCKAS!!!!!" everyone jumps way up while I just stand back up. It was the gayest thing I've ever experienced.

Yah, Slipknot definitely suck. All that "666" bullshit is so old.

Fortunately, the concerts I've been to have all been pretty decent. I've only seen Live, 311, Tool, Korn, Deftones, Bloodhound Gang, and a couple o' others. Korn was probably the worst one, and in my opinion they were decent back in the day. (This was after the release of "Follow the Leader," so they still rocked a bit.)

At the Bloodhound Gang, it was a pretty small venue. They would do kind of stand-up comedy between songs, and other stuff. They invited all the girls in the audience to come up on stage and kiss each other. (Only a couple of them went.) They had one guy come up on stage and told him they'd give him a hundred bucks and a backstage pass if he'd drink a 24-pack of room-temperature Dr. Pepper in one sitting. The lamest thing there was they had this one guy come up on stage, and dared him to piss his pants. They shined a spotlight on the guys crotch, and sure enough a dark spot appeared. Then the motherfucker stupidly tried to jump back into the crowd. Like anybody would want to catch some piss-soaked dumbass. Needless to say, the guy got no support and hit the floor hard. It was pretty funny.

My first show: I went to see Public Image Ltd. at the Olympic Auditorium (downtown LA) when I 13 (May 1980). Nice introduction to the world of punk rock. People spitting on the entertainers (a mariachi band-- supposedly Los Lobos-- drenched in thick mucous), naked men onstage splashing paint on one another (The Kipper Kids) and fights everywhere. It was like a Fellini nightmare. It didn't scare me off though-- two weeks later I went to see 999 and Berlin and got to see Teri Nunn's bush through her white leotards.

Glacial that's too damn funny. Btw, from what I've seen of live Deftones they're terrible. Then again I'm not a fan of their produced stuff either.

It's an acquired taste, as they don't make the most melodic music you can imagine...Incubus opened for them, and they were better than the main act.

i think the most fucked up show i've been to was this shitty band i can't even remember the name of. i saw them at the Garage in Silverlake, about 3 years ago.. they were basically a heavy metal / death rock band. kind of tongue-in-cheek.

anyway, at one point during the show the lead singer brought up some girl (who happened to be a tad overweight) on stage... she was dressed in the stereotypical leather/bondage gear, with a dog collar around her neck and a chain coming from it.

he took out a full on leather whip and started whipping her on the ass and on her back. but i'm talkin' like, for reals. that was disturbing enough in itself..

THEN he breaks out a cow head. a real cow head (dead, obviously).. and she obediently bends over and he starts shoving up, well, there.. she's wearing thong underwear by the way. again, let me remind you, she's not the most attractive woman in the world.

needless to say, this was unappetizing..

after all this, he ran outside (the crowd followed him out) onto Sunset Blvd and started playing basketball with the cow's head.. making free throw shots into a sidewalk garbage can.

that was f'd up.

i HEARD about another concert, but i'll have to tell the story later.. gotta go.

Apparently Skinny Puppy used to like, wear animal intestines around thier necks during concerts, or something like that. I've only heard rumors.

There was this band from my town called the Stick Men (there's some other band by that name, but these guys probably never got heard of outside the north end of the city), and their big gimmick was that the drummer - whose name was Fuck Stain - would shove a drumstick down his throat and vomit all over the people in the very front. I got it twice, and the band wasn't really even that good, but I kept going. At the age of 14 there weren't many shows I could go to, so I thought these guys were the coolest. They played about a half dozen times as I recall, and nobody seems to have heard anything about them since. It wasn't that crazy, but it was weird getting puked on.

Nothing is ever something.

Mr. Bungle show a few years back - i think it was the Metro, in Chicago, well the drummer had a little thing goin as the opening act, real weird keyboards and silliness, well he ran out nto the crowd with a *giant* flashing clear puple and red plastic vibrator and was sticking it into people's sides and laughing his head off, he got me too on his way back up to the stage. It was pretty funny.

Einsterzende Nuebauten was one of the most incredible live shows I've ever seen, (I think that was also at the Metro, maybe the Vic?) but not for any shock/schlock value - their music style is just simply stunningly beautiful and dangerous. One of the brighter points was when they poured tons of gravel down a homemade contraption of pure noise-making mayhem (these guys were WAY before "Blue Man" Poop or Stomp, and leagues apart in content and well, no comparison). And the song "headcleaner" - I thought my head was going to spin right off. If you haven't heard of these guys, I highly recommend checking them out, preferably before their "Silence is Sexy" album.

It would be cool if I could project acidic vomit.

That guy getting vomited on looks kind of like he's in a state of exquisite ecstacy. BTW, there's been so many disgusting pics posted lately you'd think this was a Tool website.

The worst concert - or at least the most disappointing - I've ever been to is the one given by the Stranglers, one of my favorite bands at the time, in Strasbourg or Metz (?), France, in 1984 or 85. The gig was supposed to start at 8:30 pm, but the band actually appeared at 10:00 pm or something like that. As far as I remember, they played for 80 or 90 minutes without a pause, without even looking at us, then they left the scene as if they simply intended to rest a bit - that was understandable, by the way. After 30 minutes we realized that the concert actually had finished!
Don't ask me about the music, I don't remember...

Yeah - Jesus Lizard shows garanteed a weird-ass time. My husband saw him (Yow) drink his own pee. Unfortunately we saw Rammstein when they opened for Front 242 - the lead singer had a big fake phallus and pretended to reach a "crescendo" all over the crowd. Dumb ass. If you're going to be over-the-top gross, at least have the talent to back it up.
I barely remember what happened at the Melvins show I went to, the Residents "Old Time Relijin" tour opened my skull and stirred my brain with chunks of acid-soaked kitty-litter....who needs drugs when you have great live music?!?

I've seen so many whacked-out concerts they all kind of run together. I wonder what that says about me? ...eh, who cares!

i think that the most fucked up gig i've ever been to is the one by this greek punk band called "panx romana".they were playing in this little club at athens that was in a basement with the ceiling so low that you could touch it and the stage was actually 20cm high ,practically they played in the crowd.it was a strange period with school occupations and anti-goverment demonstrations going on in the whole country and this group was something like the official voice of the angry students.as a result in a place that could hardly take 200 people we were like in 400.the gig started pretty normally ,people were dancing and getting drunk until the band started playing this dead kennedys'song "california uber alles".it was caos...people jumped on the stage, someone took the mic from the singer and started singing, and the rest of the group was somehow trying to continue to play.i was pushed around and ended behind the drummer almost burried under a gigantic amp that was falling from it's place saved in extremis by a friend.soon after, the owner of the place took the plug off and kicked everybody out.i have to say that i had a great time at that show.

I've always wanted to see Einsturzende Neubauten live.

Have a couple of live album, but that's the closest I've been able to come.

Umm, your last question: I dunno, last I checked - I saw them on some late night show - I didn't see Blixa in there, but as I can't stand what Nick Cave is up to now, I haven't been paying much attention to the Seeds lately. It's also weird how Blixa's been losing a bit of his edge too - I didn't like "Silence is Sexy" very much at all, and he does that banshee scream a little too much these days, but I forgive him, because he's wonderful. Did you know that Nick Cave, married to a supermodel, and with kids, has now taken his music into the 9 to 5 format and goes into an office each day in a suit and sits there and writes his songs like it's a corporate job? Really creepy, IMHO. I don't know where he's going with himself lately, and I almost wish he would take up the heroin again. No, I take that back. I just won't listen to his new stuff, it's too awful. My hubby says the zine "Punk Planet" has the best interview with Cave he's ever read - if you're interested, I think it was the September 2003 issue. Did you ever read "And the Ass Saw the Angel" by Cave? Good book.
We were lucky enough to get to see the Bad Seeds before Boatman's Call, and it was wonderful. Damn, but Chicago is a great town for live music! I miss it like crazy.

I haven't heard any of Einheit's new solo material- are you talking about "Sensation Death"? Any recommendations? Invisible Records...that reminds me of a fairly wacky Pigface show at the House of the Blues in Chicago a few years back. Hard to describe the gestalt...F*ck it up Pigface! F*ck it up!!!

I saw Queens of the Stone Age at the Mean Fiddler which is a tiny club in London, I was near the stageand nearly got crushed to death. Ok that was a slight exaggeration but my ribs did hurt for days afterwards and i got burnt by some fuckers cigarette.

At Reading 2001 i was lucky enough to see Rocket from the Crypt, the lead singer is insane, he was like a cross between Elvis and one of those crazy evangelical peachers (the type that play with snakes), I was very impressed.

The Flaming Lips are also fairly fucked up, all the glitter and puppets with Battle Royale in the background, you can't get more fucked up than that.

In reference to the original post, i have also seen Slipnot and although they are certainly a shit band, the mospit in full flow is an amazing thing to behold, i'm just glad i wasn't in it.

Maybe I'm getting old but I now hate those motherfuckers that like to start shit in mosh pits. I don't mind getting pushed around a bit, but you all know the type...the guy (or girl, my friend got punched in the face by a punk girl once at a corncert) who tries to make up for his lack of love from his mother or something by instigating shit at a concert...especially at something like the Squirrel Nut Zippers. By God, people, you would've thought I was at Cannibal Corpse! There were some rowdy fuckers there, let me tell you.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I went to a Biohazard gig 9 years ago where about 300 people started kicking the shit out of each other. Then everyone got on stage and th plug was pulled..... was surprised a riot didn't kick off.

Who's the man that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

Yes. Sensation Death.

The first Invisible disc I bought was "A New High In Low" by Pigface, which introduced me to Genesis P-Orridge, (and, of course, Throbbing Gristle) Killing Joke, Big Black, Dead Voices On Air, Coil, etc..

Worthwhile purchase

Apparently my hubby's heard some of his solo stuff, but wasn't moved enough to buy anymore, said something to the effect that it wasn't as focused and didn't really stand out. Some of these guys seem to just work better as a team - I'll look into it though, as we're going through that part of our music genre cycle again, and he may feel differently about it this time - thanks for the recommendation. Obviously we have similar tastes in music, as all those bands you mentioned are in our cd library also - I'm guessing you also like LPD and Tear Garden? Saw LPD in Chicago - that was incredible. I also really dig Edward Ka'Spel's solo work. Another great label/distributor is Warp records - just heard a song by LFO "Freak" from the "Sheath" album that is fairly wicked, and not in silly-ass Megadeth way ;)
