ok folks
even though its a pixies gig, I seeded out Pixies 11-23-91 in SHN on sharing the groove today. For those who dont get bittorent, you need to learn so you can quit screwing around with lossless mp3 stuff and get real wav files in the same amount of time
bittorent gets faster the more people who are downloading, not slower
so go here http://www.sharingthegroove.org/msgboard/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=17
or more specifically go here for the link to the gig http://www.sharingthegroove.org/msgboard/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15606
if this doesnt link perfectly, go to sharingthegroove.org, click message board, audio bittorent downloads and page down till you find pixies 11-23-91 new york
once you get the show ,leaves the window open till you give back as much as you sucked down, unpack the shn files and make a cd..
Lets see some others put some Pixies and FB stuff up..This makes hubs appear like molases

im not really into hubs, the transfer speed from all i have seen are rediculously slow rates, and most people always want to be downloading and not uploading so everyone shares extremely common crap (so nobody downloads from you choking bandwith) while looking for good stuff
not to mention constant hub crashes, etc
to levitated, read the sharing the groove website and topics, youll figure it out...shn is simply a file format that can be unpakced into wav...download the bittorent client listed on sharingthegroove in appropriate places and its simple as doing a few clicks

I added the 2nd New York show 2-5-92 up there as well, once again at sharingthegroove.org
I guess the more i put up, the more incentive people have to jump off the mp3 bandwagon and move on to shns on bittorent
you thought the last set was good |

I'm not seeing any FAQ or directions. I'm completely lost. Could someone explain this or at least post a link to some directions? Levitated, how did you figure it out? I DLed a BitTorrent client, where do I go from there?
Also, everytime I go to that link it will load up then disappear and reload over and over again. Anyone else have this problem?

here's what i did, go to the above site, sharing thegroove, register, get the bit torrent software. click the above pixies link to the bit torrent file and then it started downloading. search for the other 92 show too, cause that one is downloading way fast. |

ok, here are some stats
so I put up the two 2 shows from New York in the last 2 days..Each show was downloaded completely in SHN, a LOSSLESS format by 110+ people EACH..Thats 220 downloads of those between people in 48 hours..Now if this was some hub at best may 1-2 people could have completed downloads..Just trying to get people to see the wisdom in this system, its the best way to go to move stuff in its original format without any compression so a ton of people can hear it..Most people on sharingthegroove are jamband fans, so we had 220 downloads amongst people who dont even know who the pixies are is scary, if you guys get on board it will really hum..Ill keep announcing my bittorent blasts here on the forum, then you can go over there and get them |

anticipating the next question, i downloaded it now what do i do when its complete
- unpack the shns which will leave you with wav files all ready to be burned to discs
there are several programs that an be used to unpack shns found at etree.org (mkwACT is the most popular one by far, its easy to use, and takes very little time to download, think its under a meg)
from there you should be able to finish the path

HOLY CRAP am I the only idiot here still not getting this? It's the most unexplained process I've ever encountered? I downloaded two BitTorrent programs and I don't get it. The last link posted says it's been installed and yet there is no sign of anything having been installed on my comp. When I Download the attachment in the original "Sharing the Groove" link all I get is a litle Windows icon labled "Pixies" When I click on it I have to specify what program to open it with. BitTorrent is not one of the options. Also when I open the Bittorrent program that apparently DID install there's no option to open any file. I must be stupid.

not sure what to say, i downloaded the program from the above link, i got the same software installed message, but didn't see anything like icons or anything, so then i just tried it, and went to sharing thegroove, clicked on the thread, clicked on the bittorrent link, a pop up menu came up then asked me where t save it, then it started downloading. |

try right clicking on the bittorent link and bittorent should appear automatically,at least that's what it did on my pc(it instlled itself in c\programms\bittorrent\).it's not dling that fast though 15kb/s and for the whole show i'll have to wait 9 hours.i don't think that this lossless thing worths the effort but i'll give it a try anyway.i believe that mp3's are much more easy to manage and the quality is more than decent for the average user... ps:for bittorent faq chec this link:http://www.dessent.net/btfaq/#what

If anyone has these shows, could they open up one of those BitTorrent windows for me tonight? Bit rate is super slow right now, and I don't wanna miss my chance at getting these shows. Thanks in advance. Btw, I will the Orleans Frank show up tonight.

THANKS Frankblacktaper!! Much appreciated. I've just had broadband (ADSL) installed and I am downloading these now. Can't wait to get them onto a CD for my journey to work. No problem with bittorrent and etree.org was a good tip.
Cheers John |
