that band (Hell on Earth or something like that) that was supposed to have an assisted suicide at a gig? I wonder if it happened.
They're supposed to be some death metal band and the guy that wanted to be euthanized was a fan. Creepy, any opinions?

apparently the concert was cancelled, but the suicide may have gone on as planned.

Creepy... to say the least...thats when the music gets lost in the image.. whatever image thats supposed to be. Well might as well go out with a bang...on a stage...if your gonna go in the first place.

I heard about that. Just awful. Dispicable and deplorable, and to all the people who wanted to attend (from what I read, there was a quite a demand for tickets), I say it might be time to think about evolving as human being and learning about compassion and decency. I'm not making any commentary about assisted suicide, if someone wants to die, that's there perogative, but to want to watch it?

evolving as human beings?? evolution is a lost cause now days.. people consider becoming lazy, rich slobs evolution?? I mean I heard a comic say it best..."We went from carving our infomation into rocks that will last a thousand years, to trusting the knowledge of the universe to a chip that could be wiped out by a fucking fridge magnet."...i thought that was an amusing thought... and humans are drawn to witnessing their own demise. I mean we went from watching people get torn apart by lions... to watching people get torn up by lions...on a TV screen...and its not real so its alright....right?
It doesnt matter... its still someone getting torn up by a lion...

I'm all for assisted suicide..there's too many people, and it's completely stupid that a person can't choose to end their own life. (And besides, if someone wants to off themselves, there's not a lot to stop them..)

Doing it on a stage is pretty demented tho.

I agree, Dave and Carolynanna. It should be allowed,it's hard to stop someone if that's what they really want to do. I also agree there should be some dignity afforded the soon-to-be departed, but the concept of assisted suicide can become a slippery slope. There are moves in the US to try to legalize the harvesting of organs before the dead are officially dead (Monty Python quotes coming back to haunt us!). And a northern European country, maybe Finland?, can't remember, is "assisting" the "suicide" of elderly in their hospitals because of overcrowding...Here in the US, HMOs could become an impetus for similar behavior.
On that note, I ran into this in a roundabout fashion a month or so ago, via an article on www.slashdot.org about free speech on the net (also www.eff.org) and this topic just reminded me.

A Dutch woman, who claims to be an advocate for free speech on the net has, among other things, gone to court over her insistance that she can post public court documents regarding alleged Scientology-related crimes and the alleged brain-washed victim (very interesting, indeed!)- BTW, she won her case, and the documents are on her site, if you are interested:
www.spaink.net/fishman/home.html" target="_blank">http://www.spaink.net/fishman/home.html
Well, to get to the point, she also appears to be hosting (on Holland ISP) - under the June 10, 2003 heading at www.spaink.net/added.html" target="_blank">http://www.spaink.net/added.html archived forums/msg boards, etc. about suicide:

"Since sites openly discussing suicide and talking about suicide methods are/feel threatened in the USA, ash.xanthia.com - the website that contained the gems of ash, or alt.suicide.holiday - felt the need to shut down. I placed the archive at http://ash.spaink.net."

Is that kind of material illegal in the States or Canada? Caveat emptor ;), kinda creepy site - I didn't spend much time there, but it is thought-provoking.

Edit: grammar, missed Carolynanna's post while I was babbling...

Of course suicide is a problem with the law. If you kill yourself, you can no longer purchase toilet paper, or car parts, or makeup, or soft drinks, or concert tickets, or taxes, or blah blah blah

I just read on the internet that a suicideconcert in holland
is legal. Not that it happened before or will happen, but there's no law that can forbid it.

you could get that idea, yes, but
most of the things are good:

1. legal soft drugs (it isn't really legal over here, though)
2. gay marriage
3. euthenasie (help somebody to commit suicide, only for prof. doctors and when somebody is terminally ill)

that are some good things I guess

and on the other hand
Suicideconcerts were not invented in Holland
but in the USA
It's only legal in holland, that's all,
so if somebody is terminally ill and chooses to die rather than having pain, a prof. doctor can help him. If an audience wants to witness that (like family and friends) it's legal. So if sick people (mentally I mean) want to pay to see it and enjoy some (bad) music with it, it's also legal, because of that law for family and friends.
