i heard them on the radio (101.9FM in detroit, the only good station around here), and can't say i was adverse to what my ears absorbed.
unfortunately my list of "CDs I Need to Buy" is far too cramped and unable to accept any new applicants. |

i gotta say, i'm sold on them. it took me a little while, but i eventually got pretty into the album. as far as albums go, i think it's one of the better offering we've had in a while. as a whole, the album is pretty fucking solid. it's moody though... you have to be in the mood for it.
live.. fucking A. they were EXCELLENT. far exceeded anything i expected.
so often bands sound shitty live. and you always give bands a little leeway live, because it's hard to consistently duplicate your sound live, night after night. but they sounded EXACTLY like the album. not in a bad way either.. it just sound great. i really appreciate how dedicated they seem..
they're so New York too.. very stylish.. good stuff.
and lots of cute chicks at the show. but that's a different story.
go see them if you get a chance. |

ha!
yeah, they're definitely very into their image. but i think they're more than just a band that "looks cool".. their live performance is amazing, and i stand by my opinion that the album is pretty sold. |

actually i was thinking more along the lines of this band called The Electric Servants Of Righteousness, from Nashville, TN (have you heard of them?).. i thought they might be ok till i found out that they were.. well, gay.
very gay.
actually, "gay" is an understatement. "flaming" is a more appropriate term.
although i don't even know if "flaming" does justice to how gay they are.
either way, very very gay.. you know what i mean? like, GAY!! like, "helllleeeeow?"
damn shame. |

I like the album, but (and I realize this is the age old complaint) the JD thing bothers me, mostly because Joy Division are one of my top 5 bands of all time and the lyrics aren't as good in Interpol and neither is the music. The other day I was with a girl and somehow a JD song started playing and she said 'oh this just sounds like Interpol'....can you imagine? It'd be like if you put on the Pixies and someone said "this is just a Weezer re-hash". So yeah.. |

word up Brackish..
yeah, i completely see the re-hash criticism.. but all i know is they sound pretty good. at least as far as re-hashing style bands go, they sound pretty good. i'll take Interpol over the Strokes myself. |

Or if you put on Dave Matthews and someone says, "He ripped off John Mayer." |

My friend is trying to get me to go to an Interpol show in DC later this month (the 28th I think it is.) I've heard a few of their songs from another friend of mine who lent me their album (she is apparently apeshit over em.)
I immediately noticed the Joy Division similarity, but to be honest it didn't really bother me too much. I was kind of on the fence in regards to hitting up their DC show w/ my buddy, but seeing as a few of you commended Interpol's live performances, I think I might as well go check it out...
floop- lots of cute chicks in attendance is ALWAYS a plus, my friend. which reminds me, when I saw Portishead play at the 930 club in DC a few years ago, i believe I saw the highest percentage of gyrating hotties that I had ever seen a single concentrated area in my whole life.

psycictwin, you should check it out.. if you don't like it i'll refund your money.
actually, i won't. but you should check it out.
The 9:30 Club is cool. i went there a few times when i was living in Baltimore earlier this year. saw Yo La Tengo and someone else.. saw Guided By Voices there the year before..
DC is a good town for women. supposedly the ratio of women to men is 2 to 1. not shabby odds eh?
i found the women in Baltimore and DC more approachable than say, women here in LA.. |

Obstacle 1 is truly a great song...yup yup. I bought the album from hearing only that one song.So maybe because I had so high expectations of the album I was a little disapointed by it. Still a good record thou! |
