The Sunday Times in the UK (28th September 2003) had this to say about SMYT:
"As David Bowie pointed out recently, a singer is usually reluctant to play too many of the old hits live when he knows, deep down, that the new songs won't live up to the comparison. On that basis, expect plenty of Pixies favourites on Frank Black's current tour, because, finally - after we'd all just about given up hope - the man has delivered an album that gleams and sparkles with the off-axis genius that we know lives within him. From the twangy cowboy guitar on My Favourite Kiss to the way a rock'n'roll "Huh!" is transformed into a bilious "Wwuurrgh!" on Massif Centrale, Black's unique voice has risen again from the samey bar-band jams that, in recent years, have threatened to engulf it.ME"
They rate SMYT "Outstanding"
Just tried to get tickets for the Oxford show but it's sold out. I have to wait til December now for Shepherds Bush.
