Ok, so I'm making a Frank Black 'Greatest Hits' on MiniDisc, and I wondered if you could help me out as to what tracks to put on. Doesn't have to be just singles. Rarities and album tracks are going on this too.
Let's say, 25 tracks worth. Though i'll probably go over that.
Let's have it then...

I think 'The Swimmer' and 'Whiskey In Your Shoes' should be on it too. |

I'm not saying I don't like some of those tracks but are you just trying to mess with this guy? None of those should be on a best of. |

Given your name, I'd say Los Angeles, Freedom Rock, So. Bay, Parry the Wind, I Want Rock & Roll, and Whatever Happened To Pong/Thallasocracy. The heavier ones. But in truth, a best of is a very personal thing.

I don't know if this would qualify with most as a "greatest hit", but in my opinion The Vanishing Spies are as deserved as anything else listed above.

i just have to say, i love these forums. anyway i say st francis dam disaster has to be on there. like someone said, its a personal thing....well unless you're doing it for someone else, then just stick a load of the catchier fast songs on. id hate to have to choose just 25 tracks....so i wont.

I'd never put Hang On To Your Ego on it though. I think that's one of the worst covers ever done...

The WORST? Have you never heard Sheryl sodding Crow doing 'Sweet Child O Mine'? Absolute atrocious scabby donkey-dick! Positively reeked of Satan's salty corporate cum.
And whoever thought it would be a good idea for that useless knob-end Gareth Gates to cover Unchained Melody? It's such a lovely song, but he ruined it with his falsetto shrieking.
Trust me my friend, there ARE worse covers out there. We jsut ahve to be vigilant...

Heh heh...
Actually, if they remade Apocalypse Now, Frank'd be a shoe-in to play Brandos part. The physical similarities are startling.

I am surprised about your hating of "hang on". I never thought anyone could hate this song. I like it so much. I think it's ironic, funny and the best silly song of frank.
I vote to put "hang on" and "the village of the sun" in this recopilation
baby, that's art |

It's certainly relative and I don't fault anyone for their taste but leokearse is, I believe, on the right track - except for Fazer eyes hehe. See, we all have slightly varying tastes. I don't think anyone's input on this topic can really be of any help; you just need to go with what makes you bop. |

Why only 25 minutes when you could put every album onto the the one mini disc and have everything, because they all rock. Why limit yourself? |

In that case here goes:
Bullet, Oddballs, End of Miles, Los Angeles, 21 Reasons (just about the best song ever written but certainly the most powerful), Nadine, New House of the Pope, Living on Soul, Sister Isabelle, Breathless, California Bound, Snake, Hermaphraditos and just so many more.
Stymie I think you meant 25 'tracks' as 25 mins would just be ridiculous. |

I feel a new topic coming on with worst covers ever... I would say you have to have Hang On To Your Ego, Fu Manchu, Los Angeles at least of the first album. After that its up to you (which probably isn't much help).

I've only made one Frank mix CD so far. It includes some Pixies songs, but nothing from SMYT, which hadn't come out yet, or SSMVGD, which I didn't have yet. I'm not sure I remember the exact track list, but it's something like this:
Broken Face Where Is My Mind? Monkey Gone To Heaven Dig For Fire Alec Eiffel Motorway To Roswell Velouria Velvety Los Angeles Old Black Dawning Speedy Marie Headache Oddball Kicked In The Taco Men In Black Pray For The Girls Dog Gone All My Ghosts Skeleton Man Bullet 21 Reasons Modern Age End Of Miles If It Takes All Night
Basically chronological order, but I moved things around a bit in order to pair up Velouria and Velvety, and to make 21 Reasons the twenty-first track. If I were to make a follow-up disc, I would almost certainly include Superabound, The Marsist, Billy Radcliffe, Pan-American Highway, Massif Centrale, and Manitoba.
