Swedish songs are fine, but you might go down in history as the only person in the world with 255 favourite songs. I mean, that's cool and all, but most people have enough trouble coming up with 10.

I don't know, that's a pretty big list that encompasses many sides of the rock music world. I'll pick one just to make your list a square number because that's so important. Can't figure out how to judge what fits on there though. Good to see Scott Walker on there, I'm a bigger fan of the later stuff myself. Oh, I got one....how about Misery Goats by Pere Ubu???

Not a single Spoon song... you are missing out my friend. Trust me, you will like them. Also, remember the Beatles? They were pretty good, for a relatively unknown group....

He had some Beatles in there, though way too far down, but no Spoon. That poor man.

i know! lets all meet in iceland and each bring a boombox and we'll each crank one of these songs simultaneously! next thing you know dead animals are flying all around and then frank black and the catholics will pull up in the catholics mobile and jump out and beg us to stop...we crank 'em up a notch and then they offer to play for us 'IF WE WOULD JUST TURN IT OFF' then frank sez 'O.K.,O.K. how about free admission to all our gigs for one year AND an indian burn?! THEN we shut it down, find a hotspring and a beer and all have a good laugh!

Couldn't help but notice that you had "Echoes" by the Pink Floyd in there, and I was interested in knowing if you heard "Atom Heart Mother". It is another 23-minute epic, but it is amazing and, in my opinion, quite underrated. |

DMX...I don΄t know why I can΄t stand rapalbums...I probably heard five (5) good rap songs in my life...DMX made two...
Yes, yes, yes...I will try spoon...and I also want you to come up with a list, a top 10 is fine...from 2003 Big Sur and Witness (1 Hope) might make it...also wondering why "I Need Peace" don΄t make FB toplists...I believe FB is a bit proud of that one. Last two minutes resembles of trompe le Monde...X and Dexys? where΄s the conflict? DMX and Queen would be a larger one...and if you americans want some fine english punk...flare΄s n slippers plus banned from the roxy...pere ubu song: no song I ever heard has two so obvious references split 50-50...talking heads and pixies :)...not shabby. He..third person...:(

it's just wierd seeing stuff that you can totally relate to with stuff that makes your skin crawl in a list of 255 faves. most picks i'm down with when i think of dexysMRs i think of that radio hit 'come on Irene' and it just never gelled my way, Flash and the pan i picked up and tried but hated it. the stranglers, buzzcocks, clash and the skids are the kind of stuff i loved and that direction got me into pixies etc. don't get me wrong i like beathead stuff, dusty groove stuff and anything with passion that somehow translates to the inner realm. gary numan qualifies. this whole deal is somewhat why radio and it's games/business/art bothers me so much, i believe so much is an AFFECTATION or GIMMICK of some kind that for me it annoys. i guess all the baggage that goes with bands like they play on 'alternative' stations in the US now is just so fetid with what is wrong with this system (radio)that i just hear all the innuendo of trying to be radio cool instead of playing music -it goes way back of course so some on your list were those of that time for me. i just haven't heard a functional, cool radio station since the early '80s: KROQ in L.A. was at the time playing stuff like Stranglers, X and even the Skids -it was wildly popular and they were just playing what they wanted -without being a college subsidized fruitcake. it was cool. it's kinda like some fable where once they tried to can the essence it ceased to have the allure because i believe this station was a template to some degree to what they have now, minus DJ's with brains and music of enduring quality. -thats my rant for the day -i'm gonna go smash some cheap audio equipment now...

Any DMX album doesnt come close to any of the above band's lesser albums .
Good rock bands made it onto your list, why no good rap? eminem??!?? Hey, thats just my opinion.

I was kind of kidding about the DMX post a while back. He has done some okay songs, but when it comes to rap I give him little play. I like Outkast, pretty well. There were a few good songs from Wyclef Jean's "The Carnival." Eminem does some pretty cool stuff, although he seems to be a prick. (If you don't hear from me in a few days, anyone, it's because D12 have come and kicked my ass for saying negative things about Eminem.)
If I made a list of my favorite 255 songs, which I don't have time to do, some bands that would go on there:
Smashing Pumpkins - stuff from Gish and Siamese Dream (and "Starla" from Pisces Iscariot.) Tool - stuff from Aenema and Lateralus. Nine Inch Nails - songs from Pretty Hate Machine, and "Gave Up" from Broken. Butthole Surfers - some songs from Independent Worm Saloon. Nirvana - "Drain You" "I'm On a Plain" and "Milk It." Led Zepplin - "No Quarter," "The Rain Song" and "Dancing Days." Stone Temple Pilots - "Interstate Love Song," "Atlanta," and "Army Ants." Suzanne Vega - "Widow's Walk." Coldplay - "Politick," "Clocks" "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face," "A Whisper" Underworld - "Juanita/Kiteless" "Banstyle Sappys Curry," "Jumbo" "Sola Sistim" The Doors - "The End," "L.A. Woman," "Light My Fire." Failure - "Stuck on You," "Small Crimes," "Some Empty Friend."
It took me about ten minutes to come up with these off the top of my head; there are many more. Now that I've actually done a few I can kind of see the reason you made your list, doolittle.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Douglas Adams |
