The greatest music reviewer of our turbulent times, Mark Prindle (no, I'm not him), has a Frank Black page and he's just reviewed the two new albums. Mark's not into Black Letter Days, but I still love him like a father and you should, too.
If you wanna see what all the fuss is about, the wave can be caught at http://www.markprindle.com/black.htm
Check out his other reviews, too. Mail him some comments. Bitch the motherfucker out. Tell him to review Jandek. |

Yeah I like Mark Prindle too. Sometimes he sort of forces the creative profanity that goes off every 3 sentences in his reviews, but I sort of laughed at the straw-asshole thing in Black Letter Days. It's also nice to find a completely non-biased reviewer who likes Frank's solo work (and Mark is really non-biased, i swear sometimes he gets off on giving an average album an awful review). I'll bet frank combined with his Pixies albums has one of the highest batting averages on the site (for artists with 10+ albums).
you'll also note a few embarassing reviews from me on the site, sometimes it doesn't pay to keep the name internet pseudonymn forever. |

I think SeanBaby (www.seanbaby.com) is more original and funny than Prindle, although I also know that SeanBaby isn't strictly a music reviewer guy. But I laugh hysterically out loud at his observations several times per article.

Yeah, I think Prindle can be really annoying, he'll spend 4/5 of an interview talking about something completely unrelated. It's original, yeah, and good once in awhile, but i always just skim past him when he starts preaching and just try to find when he talks about the music. |

I agree with you there, Itchload. However, if it wasn't for Prindle, I probably wouldn't be as familiar as I am with the Fall and (gasp!) the Flaming Lips. |

What are The Lips like??? I have heard of them but not really heard any of their music... Ive got tickets to see them in Bristol in Jan 2002. What kind of music do they compare to... obviously I'll be buying a record or two when I get back home, can anyone give me a hint as to which album I should buy first?? |

ha, Yeah, Now that I think about it, Prindle was a very motivating factor in my buying Fall albums. I did get into a lot of good music from that site. |

I've read that the best Lips album to start with is 'Transmissions From The Satellite Heart'. Honestly, I've only heard the self-titled EP and 'Soft Bulletin'. The latter, while quite good in my opinion, is somewhat reminiscent of Pet Sounds and Sgt. Pepper - laden with orchestration and studio gimmicks and not a lot of guitars - and apparently turned off a few fans. |
