THIS IS Frank Black’s best album yet: 13 terse, tear-stained narratives recorded “live to two-track without edit”. The country-rock flavour is informed by the spontaneous energy of a man who remains a punk-inspired pioneer at heart. The self-pitying theme is leavened by Black’s supreme melodic flair and droll, cathartic humour. It’s a cult classic.
i think 5/5 is a bit excessive- that should be reserved for real classics, and although fb's album is really good its not near perfect- if you see wot i mean.
