Hey, what do you think of the current line-up of categories / topics?
Anything i'm missing? Redundant? Useless?
Thanks!

music and general chat could be the same. maybe keep the number of forums small first and then if it gets out of hand split it up.

hmm.. You think? I think they're different enough to keep them apart..plus i like that i can jump into that section, and (hopefully!) find new music to check out...
I might leave it for now, but i appreciate the thought. =)

I agree, I think they should be one in the same, as a lot of people will probably come here to chat about music anyway. We shall see... |

i agree that music and general chat could be only one forum. if you take out all the FB talk, the general chat could include everything else, except for the forum adjustments. also, you could create a single forum about upcoming shows, tours and show reviews, leaving the upcoming albums and album reviews stuff to the general FB chat.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think the fewer the categories, the better. The more categories we have, the more complex things get. We could take out "Frank Black Updates" and change it to "Announcements," which will be general announcements either about the sites or the band. Remove "Show and Album Reviews" and change "Upcoming..." to "Frank Black Live". All tour/show-related stuff would go in there, and album related stuff would go in the News forum. Tabs and Trading are fine how they are. Perhaps change "Forum Adjustments" to "Suggestions," which can act as a general suggestions box for the site in general. So basicly, the new layout would be as follows:
Announcements
Frank Black & the Catholics --------------------------- General News FB&TC Live
Tabs and Trading ---------------- Tabs Trading
Off Topic --------- General Suggestions

Once i figure out how to move the topics to new areas i'll shrink it down.

mmkay - under Off Topic 'Music' and 'General' have become conjoined.
Anybody disagree with the following for the main FB section:
Frank Black & the Catholics --------------------------- General News FB&TC Live
?

i'm still confused what 'News' would have that couldn't be put in 'general'. Unless you make it a web link to a real news site within frankblack.net

another thing
Is it my understanding that the forum
'Frank Black and Company Updates!'
is to be used by Charles and the boys only if they join?

Hmm.. I was thinking general news about what they're up to, but i guess that could fit under 'live', eh?
mmkay..let's drop 'news' too.
Any other thoughts?

Aye!
I 'reserved' the handle 'Frank Black' so the man can use it if he so chooses.
Still not sure if i can set the area to only allow his postings and keep everyone else out. The only thing i'm aware of is that i can make it so only certain people can *read* it, but that's not what we want.. I'll figure it out.

I want to add my voice to the suggestion that there be as few categories as possible. Or, and this may seem excessive, perhaps all messages could be duplicated in a single "scroll" much like the Yahoo groups format. That way when someone posts a message in a folder/forum it would appear there and also in a general, all-encompassing scroll in order of posting. Then people could access messages in the manner most comfortable for them. I hate to be missing out on things but I also would like to avoid having to visit each forum to keep up. Partly this comes from a desire to avoid using the mouse so much. With a scroll you only have to click the next button (though even then I'd prefer to use the arrow keys), but with all these folders you're clicking all the time. Anyway, just a suggestion, albeit somewhat selfish. I love the site, and all the work that has gone into it. It's obvious things are being done well by competent people. Thanks. - Mel |

Jettison - How's that? =)
holzgrafe - At the top of the page is a link called 'Active Topics' - when you click on that, you can pull down the menu and view all the latest areas with postings, from whatever timeline you choose.
Also, if you're on the same computer, a cookie will register when the last time you were here, and it should leave pink folders (instead of yellow) beside all the areas with new messages(since your last visit).
I don't think there's a way just to show new messages tho, sorry. You gotta do the clicking..
