WELL! For any L.A. times subscribers who read last week's article on panini, and thought "shit i could save 600 clams and make those bastards from scratch" well, your time has come! Featured was instructions for making panini with a slotted griddle, cutting board and bricks - and boy does it work. Here's the order of events!:
Oil/spray on griddle. Heat medium. Cut up vegetables: like: zuccini, tomatoes, peppers, into strips Grill them vegetables Cut some forcaccia bread into sandwhich slices Cut some mozz cheese into slices Butter/mustard/spice the inside of the bread Put grilled veggies inside, with the cheese Add some salt and pepper Turn griddle to low heat Baste outside of bread with oil/spray Put sandwich on griddle Put cutting board atop sandwhich Put 2-3 bricks atop board Grill 5-7 minutes Remove bricks/board, turn sandwhich over Replace board and bricks Grill 5-7 minutes Finis!!
For Americans who wish they could be expatriates and can't get a panini continentally that is actually a panini, this is a super trick, and saves one costly airline tickets or expensiver panini makers.
One might also attempt this on one of those George Foreman cooking grills - but one would have to add pressure, and that damn thing's hot.
SAY! Did I spell panini wrong, or WHAT?!
Enjoy
