Does anyone else ever listen to Tom Waits' Rain Dogs and decide they want to move to new orleans, take up the piano, wear suspenders, put on some leather wingtips, and start drinking whiskey?

I need to get that album. I have alot of Tom Waits, but not that one. I've heard a few songs off 'Rain Dogs' from 'Big Time' and 'Beautiful Maladies' though. That one is next on my Tom Waits' wish list, after 'Bone Machine.'
Downtown Train and Time are off Rain Dogs aren't they? Those songs are incredibly great.

I had to get that album after seeing Tom in Down By Law. Fucking genius. "In the land of the blind, a one-eyed man is king... so take this ring!"
Yeah, Downtown Train and Time are both on Rain Dogs. |

Down By Law was a great movie. I loved how Tom Waits did that radio weather man thing. That cracked me up.

Yeah, It's a great album. definitely one of his best. I like it better than bone machine, but I like Mule Variations more than Rain Dogs, does this mean I'm weird? |

You aren't weird carson. I think Mule Variations is my favorite Waits album. If my heart were made out of butter, that album would be the microwave that melts it. Wh-what? Huh? Yeah I am really tired and it's late.
The guy is a genious.

Speaking of Mule Variations-- when I saw Catherine Wheel a few years ago, they played "What Is He Building in There?" as their intro music before coming on stage. It was a pretty cool build-up.
I rented the Criterion DVD of Down By Law. One of the extra features is a recording of phone calls between Jarmusch with Waits and John Lurie. Those three guys are so insanely, wryly funny that even their telephone conversations are interesting. |
