FRANK BLACK AND THE CATHOLICS
Show Me Your Tears
(Sonic Unyon)

"You’ll never like one of my albums after just one listen," Frank Black has said about Show Me Your Tears. He’s right. The first spin is always necessary to adjust expectations (read: accept that it’s still not another Pixies-ish album), but after that you’re compelled to spin it endlessly and become totally hooked on the fucker. Show Me Your Tears is easily Black’s most melancholy album; it’s also among his tightest. The band sounds incredible pouring out these intricate songs that touch on country, bluegrass, blues and mild rock. This album is reminiscent of that initially overlooked, now classic Supersuckers country album Must’ve Been High, with even more Steve Earle influence. It’s laid back, infectious and breezy while still soul-crushing (13 tracks of heartbreak? That’s beyond Johnny Cash territory). Yes, this album is awesome. No, most people won’t get it.

Good on you Keith Carman - and a Steve Earle reference too! I wonder if it is a cover of Steve Earle's Snake Oil on the UK release of Nadine?

As for your title Stuart, Did Shaft ever threaten anyone with a Cyclops?
