I emailed the show today at this link:
http://www.cbs.com/latenight/latelate/email/
Since this is the only show that put FB on after the double whammy I thought it was our best chance to pester and recommend FB to. I really liked his and Daves performance last year and would love to see him back. We probably shouldnt blitzkrieg them in one day, but, over the next couple of weeks, if you think about it, come back and get the link and drop Craiggers a line letting them know how much we appreciated FB's last appearance. Just an idea anyway... |

i should say, "he seems like a dick".. i really don't know. he could be a great guy..
i'm just not a fan of his full-of-himself approach.. and his show is not funny (unlike the highly superior Conan O'Brian)..

That is awesome that you were at that taping. You should consider yourself lucky. Any anecdotes from the taping? FB nervous or anything like that?
I like Kilborn. But, I think the ego-stuff is an act that gives him some freedoms that a less conceited approach would hinder. Come on, the guy introduces himself in that over-the-top manner, he cant take himself THAT seriously.
I also like Conan and no doubt his show has superior writing, but, sometimes he is tough to watch do an interview. Very uncomfortable IMO. |

understatement: 'smarmy' more accurate: 'obnoxious' -that's kilbourn in a nutshell. Letterman is cooler and on earlier. and if he likes what he hears he has the pull to put him on -i eggmailed the Letterman mailbag once already and told them to ask Warren Zevon if they had any questions as to wether frank black and the catholics were cool enough to be on their show. -he would know, right?

I was raised on Letterman and he will always be the King O Latenight to me. I think Leno is a hack. I will drop Letterman an email as well, thanks for the link. |

i was lucky to get in.. not everyone who showed up did get in. i'm guessing that i was literally the only person there to see Frank Black. it was mostly tourists and stuff, and in line i heard more than one person mention "Jack Black"..
anecdotes? i sat next to and chatted with a reeeally cute girl, but i was still with my girlfriend at the time :( also, as an absurd inside joke on old Frank Black For President yahoo group, i yelled out "Donnie Darko" when they introduced Frank.. (don't even ask, it's a long story).. i think if you listen close, you can hear me saying it when he's introducing him..
the weird thing is that they taped Frank and Dave first.. then they left.. and then later Kilborne did a fake introduction for Frank, which they edited together to look like it was happening at the same time. Frank and (dickhead) Kilborne were never on the stage at the same time, and for my money, i'm guessing Kilborne didn't even meet Frank. does that makes sense?
anyway, it's all fun and games when you're unemployed, as i was at the time.. |

Also, Kilborne introduced the song as being from Devil's Workshop. There is a noticable pause as he scans the back of the two CDs, desperately tring to find which one Cold Heart of Stone is one. Not finding it, he simply guesses. 50/50 chance of being right. You lose, Craigers. |

Conan has been my absolute favorite since I was in like, hrm, sixth grade (before then, perhaps)? I started watching during his first or second season, methinks. Conan always comes out and shakes the band members' hands, tells them they performed a great set, etc. Seems like a genuinely nice guy, funny, ad infinitum.

Letterman and Conan are my favorites (Leno is usually crap). I agree with Dallas that some of Conan's interviews can be tough to watch. The guy is so hilarious and makes the worst guests interviews fun to watch, but on some interviews you wish he wouldn't draw so much attention away from the guest. Still, he is the man.

I am loyal to Dave - and he likes/supports music and gets jazzed about musical guests more than anyone else I've seen, which I love. A funny man who loves music - sign me up!
That said, I would be stoked to see Frank on any of the shows mentioned here. Bring it on, we're ready! |

yeah, Leno = bad. although i watched a bit of it yesterday to see Jane's. I guess the show isn't so bad as long as he doesn't say anything and lets the guest go.. like that woman who used to be on In Living Color last night. Letterman is the best. (and hey, once a year or so they seem to play a clip of "Here Comes Your Man", so there's some Pixie points) I have a love/hate w/ Conan. He was so much better when he had Andy around to pull him out of the holes he constantly digs himself. After Jane's last night, I tried to stick around for Conan, but the first 60 seconds of his monolog are just SO BAD, i had to turn it off. Why, Conan, why? I know they joke is he's making a fool of himself, but it's just not funny. And the joke: "we have a great show tonight. i know i always say that, but tonight i really mean it.".. he's told that same fucking joke every night for 10 years now! But the skits are usually funny. And he did have Frank on way back in '94.. I would guess he's Frank's best bet to get back on late night tv again. so try emailing, maybe. Nobody's mentioned Jimmy Kimmel yet? he's no so bad. And if it counts, the Daily Show with Jon Stewart is real good too. |

Time to add my two cents.
Dave Letterman in his prime is the best...when he was on NBC, just absolutely brilliant. Now I still love him, but he's just so tired and he realizes a lot of it isn't very funny..which actually lends it this weird postmodern vibe (argh! didn't mean to get intellectual sorry) that I still really like.
Leno is just safe and inoffensive, never been a big fan
Conan I used to absolutely love in the 3rd and 4rth seasons of his show, just absolutely hilarious stuff. It was just when the show was getting a buzz. I watched it every night one summer I remember, I set my schedule around it. Good memories. However, now it's just a bit painful. The self-deprecating stuff just does not work any more and when he goes overboard with his wacky voices/camera mugging, it can get uncomfortable. I don't know how many more times I can watch his monologue and have the audience not laugh wildly at a joke so he can spend 5 minutes commenting on it (or do an impression of the one audience member who applauds, ext). Still, I like Conan and think he is one of the better interviewers when he's in top form, I just don't enjoy his show much anymore. I'll still defend him against detractors though, because I literally was obsessed with him at one point. |

conan = best.
i like the uncomfortable moments. i like that on Conan they're not afraid to get really weird sometimes. some of the humor is so fucking out there, there's no way it could please everyone..
i can see the self-deprecating criticism.. but Conan still reigns supreme in my opinion (though i don't get to watch him these days sice i work and stuff, and on the west coast he doesn't come on till 12:35am)
that's my favorite show though.. without fail, at some point during his show, i'm dying laughing.. it's the only show i can say that about..
but i really don't watch much TV (not to sound pretentious)
anyway, that is all..
oh yeah, i also disagree with the conan was better w/ Andy statement. i loved Andy, and the show was truly great with him, but i think Conan continued on not only admirably, but became even more funny after Andy left.
now if only i didn't have a job i could stay up and watch late night TV |

Conan IS the funniest of the bunch -Leno is funny if you are medicated -though Lettermans' show would be the best for all involved admittedly. Leno's show may give the most exposure, but actually i would think an appearance on Sesame Street would have more creative credibilty in a resume then being on Leno so scrap that. I feel like le bonehead for emailing Lettermans' show with the reference to Warren Zevon - he passed away yesterday! you should all know Letterman was a big fan and promoter of Zevon hell Zevon hosted the show when Letterman had shingles. and his recent health problems prompted Letterman to devote a show to him. -this comeraderie and human touch is what is in abundance on Lettermans'show and why a full court push should ensue to get FB&Co on. -if they are gonna do a US TV show then this is it. and i believe it is possible that DL may pick up on what FB is all about and become a promoter of sorts.

Speaking of Conan, does anyone here remember when Frank Black played "Freedom Rock" on his show, way back in '94 ?????? I saw that show, and immediately went out and bought TOTY the next day. (and was converted ....all was good ....) I actually wrote to the show years later, trying to get a copy of that performance. Also, does anyone here know where I could get a copy of that Craig Kiborne show with "Cold Heart of Stone" ???? just wonderin'

sorry for changing the topic slightly, but to all the folks in the U.S., and perhaps Canada........do you not find it insanely tedious to watch t.v. ? i mean any time i have watched t.v. in the states, there have been about three commercial breaks in one half hour show, THREE !!
I mean say in an episode of the simpsons, the programme, starts - has a break - resumes - has a break - returns for the fucking closing credits ??
Jesus, i couldn't handle it......

Yeah, the only TV I watch is downloaded these days. And it's not just the commercials that are tedious, it's the shows themselves. I like shows like the Simpsons, Family Guy, and Seinfeld, but most shows it just feels like, "Been there, done that." Survivor was cool in the first season too, I think that was the last time I watched TV, that long ago. I've downloaded a few episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and it seems pretty cool too.
