I'll have to transcribe it tomorrow morning...But it got 3 out of 5 stars. And a general, it's very good for not being groundbreaking, ie. not being Pixies. Don't ya love it. In a perfect world an album would be judged on it's own merits and not those that came before it. Ah well...

Honestly, who gives a shit what a bunch of failed musicians (i.e. critics) think about our hero? His accomplishments are more than their feeble minds can grasp-- which is why they became critics.

its like the standard martin scorsese is measured by, his worst film would be the greatest achievement of most other directors, yet critics always seem to expect every one to be his best....if not, bad review.

FRANK BLACK AND THE CATHOLICS
Show Me Your Tears ***/***** ("Very good in its genre")
Hard-boiled roots-rock on the ninth (!) album from former Pixies frontman

A dozen years removed from his alternative-pioneer days, Frank Black is just another oddball tunesmith. Recording live with his steady backing band as well as former Pixies bandmate Joey Santiago and guest eccentrics Van Dyke Parks and Stan Ridgway (himself forever known for one big thing, Wall of Voodoo's 80s MTV fave "Mexican Radio"), Black remains obsessed with death, romance and religion. But now his approach is basically straightforward, with an emphasis on six-string duels (the snaky Leonard Cohen mimic "This Old Heartache," the addled solo on "Nadine") and not-quite-country (the pedal-steel ache of "Goodbye Lorraine," the swinging "Horrible Day"). Important? No. Remarkable? Not really. But at least Black is neither in the shadow of nor looking to recapture his past glories.

Could be. For the record, though, SMYT is the 9th album.
