This is the first Aussie review I've seen. It was in the Sun-Herald (one of Sydneys 2 main Sunday rags) and reviewed by Scott Ellis. It was also given CD of the Week:
Frank Black cancelled his tour, which is sad because if this CD is any indication it would have been a damn fine concert. The former Pixies frontman has teamed up with his usual suspects The Catholics, plus Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago and the legendary Van Dyke Parks (even Stan Ridgeway pops up playing the harmonica!) to bring an album of loss, longing, pain, and hopefully a bit of redemption. With tracks such as When Will Happiness Find Me Again?, Horrible Day and This Old Heartache, even Black cheerfully admits "there isn't a happy song in this bunch", but he crosses from his familiar indie roots to an almost country groove with such ease its still as uplifting as all to get out. Life's not easy, Black explains again and again, and suffering's going to happen - but what the hell, pour a drink, kick back and suffer in style! Black, by the way, is rumoured to be rescheduled for Australia next February.
