i was wondering if anyone might know or maybe where else to look, to see if there might be a bootleg floating around of any of the pixies shows when they opened for u2 in 1991? i went to the show at the oakland colosium in april or may 1991 and would love to track down a copy if one even exists. just wondering,
thanks pants |

well here's the thing, at the time, i only had surfer rosa and i fucking loved it and listened to it all the time. but this was before i really bought alot of music. i was 15 and one day just grabbed some tapes from my buddy and said i need new music can i check these out. so i grabbed surfer rosa and jane's addiction nothings shocking. so i fell in love with surfer but just didn't realize they had other albums out. so when i bought tickets for u2, the pixies playing too was great. but they mainly played stuff off of trompe, which was still great but i just wasn't familiar with it so i didn't get as into it. so i'm just curious to try to track it down and see how it was, now.
it was cool though, when the lights were still on, someone came out picked up the guitar and then just started making lots of noise for a 2-3 minutes, then all the sudden the lights went out and people realized it was joey and then they just started playing as soon as the lights went out. we all thought it was just some roadie or something at first.

there is a boot called "situation red" but it is terrible. sounds like it has been taped from about a mile away, and it probably was. i had an original copy years ago but sold it - still holds the dubious honour of being the only cd i have ever sold. various people have it for trade...normally i'd tell u to ignore it at all costs, but seeing as u went to one of the shows (can't remember which show s.r. is from) maybe it might be fun listening to it.
good luck.
i don't know if there are other shows available...but thats the only 1 i've seen as a "bootleg"

I heard that that tour was shit. Someone said that in Oregon the Pixies played and the house lights were on and that u2 just did not care or know who they were. There was also an interview with Paul Westerberg where he says, "I once talked to my friend Charles(from the pixies) and told him, never, never open for anyone like Sting". Point being never open up for an adult contemporary artist. Over all I heard that the U2 tour was a horrible experience, any truth to these rumors? Oh and what do I have to do to become more than Cult of Ray? |

In a perfect world U2 would have opened up for the Pixies. Actually in a perfect world perhaps there would be no band with the letter U and number 2 in it.
