He's a scrapper. "Fiesty", they called him. Mostly apple cores and empty Vi-Co containers, but they could sling arrows much worse than those. A crowded cafeteria provides the ultimate annoymous attack, and he didn't dare turn around. Too many faces delighted with someone else's embarrasment would be there to greet his gaze. Defiantly he chewed through soggy grilled cheese without wavering before stoicly collecting his bag and walking out of the cafeteria. He didn't much care for companionship; he never had it, he didn't need it, he didn't seek it out. He was certain he wouldn't find it if he tried. Just once, he had tried. Long ago, it seemed now, but still he could taste the sting of rejection, as the coppery drop of blood eased over his lip. A wink is a signal, and to those receiving it, it was the wrong signal. Four fingers curled over a thumb, and a simple lesson is taught: try and you might fail. His disjointed nose, a reminder.
