How many people out there have actually heard Dave Noisy's band, the Noisies? I checked 'em out; they were pretty good. Although I definitely heard a Frank Blackish element in there somewhere.
You know, if enough people start using the word "blackish" to connotate cool, in about fifteen or twenty years the word might make it into the dictionary as such! Who would've ever thought the word "sweet" might one day mean cool? "Slang" really seems to refer to words that are in the transition phase into the common English vernacular. Even "cool" is one. SOMEONE had to start using the word to mean what it does. (Additionally, cool is a very difficult word to describe, because it is such a root word in my vocabulary. I can't quite describe what "cool" is without using the word.)
Later On :}

I just checked out some of the profiles of the members of the forums, and you had a link to your Noisies website. I'd say probably no one else checks these profiles. Ah, to have a life.
As to the question about the forum, I just wondered how people start them, just out of curiosity. Not wanting to start my own or anything. Doesn't really have anything to do with the Noisies, but I didn't really think it was a topic to start a new thread. C-Ya

Well, to start a forum you need a server and software.. I don't think many Forums/Message Boards will run on 'free' hosting tho..usually needs a My/SQL back end.
I think you can set up something free on the EZBoards website tho..? |

Hey Dave,
Mostly some of the guitar riffs in the Noisie's sounds a bit like Frank. (Like in "Stupid," towards the end.) The music more reminds me of like, more gentle King Missile or older Butthole Surfers music. (Or the Meat Puppets.) Hopefully you like these bands, if not it was meant as a compliment. I like to draw, and although I would take it as a great compliment to have someone tell me I drew like Frank Miller or Rodney Matthews, I wouldn't want to establish my career as such. Do you still do music? You mentioned that "at the time" of the music you didn't listen to Frank Black.

Yeah, King Missile was/is an influence... As for BS and MP, the stuff i listened to was influenced by them, or peers, so it'd be in there..funny how it meshes, eh?
I definitely take it as a compliment..as long as i'm not compared to Moe Burg. (Sorta Canadian trivia there..)
I'm still doing a bit of recording, tho i'm trying to define myself, so it's a bit of a process.... |

As i'm browsing old topics, let's rehash ME for a minute. =)
I've got all my tunes online now, streamable mp3's even!
My first batch of tunes, which i turned into the CD 'Somewhere Under A Rainbow:
www.thenoisies.com/tunes/suar.asp
And the second batch, which never made to the album i was gonna call 'The Folk Fission Odyssey':

Note that these are all fairly rough sounding, 'demo' quality recordings, i plan to redo many of them in a more significant way some time in the future... |

How much did Dave pay you to start this thread glacial? muahaha.
I downloaded maybe 15 of your songs a while ago. These are my faves if I remember:
"Dairy Trucks Keep Circling My House" "Greed and a Piece of Wood" (like the guitars alot) "She Hates Me" "Oranges" (it's a catchy bitch. Oranges, apples, lemons... pies?) "Ain't No Man" "Different" "Porn Star" (funny stuff)

If I made those song titles in a different order I could have made an acrostic.
"Gods Pad"

reminds me most of ween.
the main thing is, though, geener committs to the vocals a lot more than you seem to. you're reminding me more of joe from the dead milkmen but, again, it sounds like you're a little more unsure of yourself than even him when you sing. most of the time, anyway, sometimes you pull it off, though. |

I listened to some of the tracks and some of the stuff is good. Much better than other shit coming out of Canadia.

I think Dave secretly covers Celene Dion and Nickelback. He probably has made a Celene/Nickelback medley or two.

Hey, i swear he did it of his own violation..err..
Thanks Derek.. Gods Pad. hmm.. I think most people would get a kick out of Porn Star, tho it's really not much more than a one-time listen.
Interesting points EV. I don't feel i'm a particularly 'good' singer (rather, my voice), nothing really 'attractive' about it, so it's been a bit of an issue for me. You'll notice i sound different in almost every song..heh.. People who hear my music after knowing me for a while don't believe that's me singing...
Thanks Jim! Tho you know we're all just imitating what's coming out of the US. =)
If you listen close...the underlying melodies of CD and NB are very similar, and really, the only difference is the inflection. |

yeah i can tell you aren't really at terms with your voice. i think that's the biggest trick.
man, your voice doesn't need to be good to sing rock. honestly does frank have a great singing voice? no but he knows how to use it. that's the trick. is he a virtuoso guitar player? no. but what he plays is great.
it's not your capabilities but how you use them.
confidence, grasshopper. |

Heh..no simple task. Good points tho. I will keep truckin' on.
An interesting issue of contention for me right now is how to write/record songs... I can get gigs around town, doing the solo-acoustic thing, which i'm cool with..but a lot of the songs i enjoy writing/recording have multiple parts and don't really work well 'solo'. So i'm slow at the get-go because i don't know where to focus my energies.
haha.. I feel like i'm talking about girl problems. =P |
