ok, so i've always liked "Whispering Weeds" and it always seemed oddly familiar to me and it just now occurred to me that it's similar to "Weep Day". a TMBG track that only appeared (AFAIK) on "Then: The Earlier Years" collection.
i'm sure it's just one of those odd musical coincidences, i dunno though, am i just on drugs? |

It's because you're retarded.
Just kidding. I don't know the TMBG song but I'll check it out. Whispering Weeds always reminds me of the Talking Heads. I love it.

I do know "Then", Ebb. If I thought about it, I could see some resemblance in the 2 songs. I don't enough about musical terminology to describe exactly how, but there's a small connection. I would guess coincidental, though.
Anyway, do you know the story of Weep Day? the refrain goes "It's samba time for Tambo and weep day for Urine Man" On the back of a Bob Dylan album jacket, whichever album had Mr. Tambourine Man, the title of the song was hyphenated between 2 lines of text, and it came out to read Mr. Tambo- urine man.
Funny!

I'd be willing to bet he's heard "Weep Day", but I think the resemblance is more of a genre thing.
Lincoln is one of the greatest records of all time.

For whatever it may be worth, Weep Day is one of my favourite songs in the world, and while it and Whispering Weeds may have something of a similar pace I just listened to both a few times trying to put them together with nothing really jumping out at me. Maybe now that I'm thinking about it I'll slowly come around, but for now I don't really get it. They're both fairly uptempo and a bit jerky in pace, I guess...maybe the singing is just too dissimilar for me to get past. Oh well.
