Who thinks Frank should care for his weight a little bit. I mean, I don't care for looks, but I don't want to lose him before I'm 75 or so. Fat people do tend to have hartproblems. (Just making a conversation ;)) |

no, I haven't seen him in years. But this wasn't really a serious question, I just wanted to have a tread of my own. But my concerns remain truthfull. |

Yes, he's put a big dent in it, I'd like to see him drop a few more, and for the same reasons. I could give a shit how he "looks" but as I wrote in a piece accompanying a photo I did of him, I'm hoping that he'll last as I grow old, writing those snappy wonderful songs of his...
At the time I took the picture, he was probably the largest he'd ever been and he didn't look real healthy, and I was genuinely concerned. Saw him in Chicago over the last tour and he looks MUCH better -- both in weight and just skin tone.

To be healthier, yes, I am glad he lost all that weight. It's just a burden. I have lost 30 pounds myself on the atkins thingy so I know of what I speak.
Really though, it's an incredibly personal topic we're discussing here. |

I agree with swimmer on this one.....i think this is too personal a topic to be discussing, i can't say i'd be pleased if my health was being discussed on the internet by a heap of anonymous strangers.

Yes and no. Let's face it, if FB were a woman, (and more famous), his/her weight would be the lead paragraph in any story about him/her. At least here we're discussing the health aspects, not the appearance or any of those stupid stereotypes.
Whenever we see a rock star who has been doing a few too many drugs, it becomes a discussion. If we see somebody who clearly has jaundice, that's going to be a discussion. If you're a public figure, you have to accept that this goes with the territory.

This is pretty lame. Who's to say the man doesn't lose 60 pounds which results in a change in his music (I would imagine almost necessarily) and then all you soothsayers start critiquing his new music. Fact is, we all pretty much have the best gauge on our own lifestyle and health choices. However it may be that his size maintains or changes, it is probably in tune with his chosen life. |

Thats fair enough blackpurse, of course we are entitled to discuss this, and i'm pretty sure Frank is well versed in what comes with being a public figure......I just thought we might be able to save this forum from tabloid hell ! nobody needs to hear this stuff from strangers, thats what your family/close friends are for.

as far as i know, he has either discussed these two publicly, or at the very least acknowleged them ! I have never heard him refer to his weight or health publicly, maybe he's sensitive about it ? either way, this is the last you'll hear from me on the subject.

Even though Frank is a guy, his weight is still discussed a lot. At least in the Pixies days you'd always read "the cherubic" "the portly" Black Fancis. Not so much recently, but that's probably because everyone has run out of loveable chubby adjectives. |

longevity is overrated. I'd rather die 10 years too early than 10 minutes too late.
One who does not experience the permeation of slander and who is not agitated by accusations can certainly be called 'enlightened.' Indeed, such a person may be called 'transcendent. |

I reckon talking about Franks weight is a little too personal, especially seeing as this topic is called Frank too fat?? If I read that about myself I'd be a little insulted to be honest, but thats just me.
Swimmer, what is this atkins diet all about as I could do with shreading a few pounds. Living in China where everything is fried means that ive put on about 10kgs of weight and am developing a good sized beer belly.

I can't remember the last time I've seen an overweight Chinaman. Maybe it's all those cigarettes they smoke. Yes, I know that is not a politically correct term.
I do have to agree with everybody that Frank has lost a ton of weight. He's talked about his weight before in interviews, so it is not so outrageous to address it here. The Europeans will be suprised by how svelte he's looking these days, as they haven't seen him in a while. Circa Cult of Ray he was enormous...like a giant alien baby.
Now I would like him to grow out his hair again. |

This has nothing to do with his weight really, but does anyone else think that Frank looks a lot like Zordon from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? I also once saw a really creepy, red-tinted picture of his face that made him look like Sludge Vohaul from the Space Quest computer game series.

agreed. also - ive had enough of this shit and its time to say what i think. come on people - whats happened to this forum recently? its as if we have run out of things to say and are scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel. this is a frank black forum dedicated to appreciating the songwriting genius of frank, and also the combined talents of the catholics. how the hell do you think it would feel if you were in FBs shoes reading people discussing your personal issues? ill tell you - it would feel crap.
so there you go - all of you seem like really nice people - but please stop posting crap. its detracting from this forum. and as retch correctly pointed out - tabloid hell it is.
jim and dave - feel free to edit this. cheers

jeez bazza, loosen up man! this isn't a forum about how to save the world from pollution or anything. This is rock music we're talking about. Don't take this shit too seriously.
A couple of weeks ago Barry White died. I loved Barry White. Maybe if he wasn't so goddamn stuffed, he would have lived longer. |

Personally, I don't really think it's a big deal. He's a public figure, we can discuss his apperance. On that same note, I think recent threads do lack a whole lot of interest, however there's only so much you can say about a band every day. |

I saw the band play in Baltimore in 2001 and between songs Frank asks the rest of the band "Am I burly?" It sound like someone had called him burly and he was curious about his appearance. The band decided that he was jolly and not burly.
