Warlmart sucks. We just got a Target in Asheville so I'm so glad because I get tired of going to depressing walmart and seeing a bunch of rednecks yelling at their kids with mullets.

I do...Every day...unfortunately.
I just went in Wal Mart the other day and some popular country singer was in there signing autographs (I think his name is Brad Paisley), and the store was completely full of red necks, everywhere I looked. It was horrible. |

i really hate wal-mart. k-mart i can deal with, and i love target, except when people call it TAR-géy, like they're french or something.
anyway, wal-mart is the worst. its always good for an ego-boost, though.

There's nothing worse than a busload of rednecks going off a cliff, except that there are two empty seats. |

Why does Walmart always have this weird smell to it? I can't explain it but it is sickening.

a good start.
ha ha. actually, that reminds me of one of my favorite jokes of all time: whats the worst thing about the baptists?
the can never seem to keep them under long enough

So, back to the headphones (haven't we spread enough WalMart hate in this community already? (and yes, I'm a greeter)): Tim, I'd actually be quite interested to find which ones you used while mastering. And general recommendations. Really, just someone with some audio background and a collection of bizarre/hilarious soundclips. |

Headphones: Grados <sp?>
Pretty much the best. Get the most expensive ones you can. ($100-$200)
They'll blow your mind. Go listen to some in any quality audio shop first.
I've got AKG K141's, they're pretty good, but not very comfy in the long run.. Got them because not a lot of sound leaks while i'm recording. But for listening i'd go with the Grados. Hands down. |

For listening: speakers. Intensive headphone listening kills your ears. It killed mine, and now i have all sorts of strange harmonies going on. To be avoided. |

i prefer speakers actually
but the walls of my house are paper thin. i could be watching tv at a normal volume and my neighbor goes crazy.

Grados are great, but not very comfortable to wear. Sennheisers are good also (not so much for rock) but mine break a lot. I like my Sony MDR-V600's a lot. They're $100 and sound great. My only complaint is their lack of low end.

Grados uncomfortable, really? They're just a couple pieces of foam..? heh
They'll give you awesome low-end tho. |

Has anyone tried the mondo expensive Grados? They're like $700 or something? Maybe someday when I'm wiping my ass with 20's I'll get a pair of those.
