does everyone on this board pretty much agree that a reunion of the pixies would be incredibly lame and Frank knows it? I mean, to me it seems pretty obvious that if they got back together it would be practically a mockery of what they did before. And futhermore, I think a lot of people on this board enjoy his new stuff more anyway. It just gets so annoying to see all these people ask frank about it and I feel bad for him because I don't want him to think all his fans are like that.
p.s. i posted this on this board because i thought it was more relevant to franks current situation

In my humble opinion: The Pixies = a really good hamburger. The Catholics = filet mignon.

I wouldn't want there to be a reunion.
1. the reviewers, after years of wanting him to sound more like the Pixies, would give a reunion a reverse review. REVIEW = WHY DID THEY EVER GET BACK TOGETHER WE LOVED HIS NEW MUSIC SO MUCH.
2. the radio stations would all of a sudden start to play Pixies songs and tell you how they have limited tickets available for the 92nd caller, and then the 'fans' would come out of the woodworks.
3. the promoters would over price and over advertise shows and the real fan like you and me wouldn't be able to attend.
4. all of a sudden the PIXIES would matter.
Fuck em all. The Pixies are mine. rest in peace!

Agree with the above. I loved the Pixies, loved Frank, love Frank and the Catholics. Let Frank and the Catholics evolve - play the back catalogue - Pixies RIP. |

I never got to see the pixies live, in fact i wasn't even aware of who they were until years after they broke up. But I see no need for a pixies reunion. Most old bands reunions seem like a joke. As if it's just a gig to get more money and media attention. Though they still rock, the pixies are in the past, and trying to resurrect it seems pointless when we have the man of the pixies making some of the best music he's ever made.

After a 10 yr. layoff-no. If they were to get together and write a new album to tour behind-yes. I don't think it will happen. Ever. |

It should never happen, it wouldn't be worth it. I like his new stuff too much to have him make a new album of the same old stuff. |

no question it should never happen.. they broke up for a reason, so why should they get back together?
every band who ends up getting back together after years and years SUCK live.. (with the possible exception of DEVO, who i saw a few years back and were incredible..)..
but, Velvet Underground, Sex Pistols, all the old school punk bands like GBH, Adolescents, TSOL.. it's really pathetic. |

I've heard that the Buzzcocks were able to pick up the trail and sound as though they'd never left it. Is that accurate? And of course I concur that the Pixies should not get back together, especially if that would threaten what we have now. However, I would love to see Joey back with Frank in the same band, along with Phillips, Gilbert, Workman, et al, on any basis. - Mel |

no reunions please! although i am a huge pixies fan - frank is writing the best material of his career at the minute and seems to be perfectly content with his work as well (and quite rightly so).
i would hate a reunion because:
1. i think a reunion would be a slap in the face for all of us who have fallen in love with his solo work. i shudder to think what it would be like - stone roses second coming springs to mind. urgh. (sorry to offend and fans but compare their first album to that and you will see my point).
2. i also think that the catholics are a far better outfit (although joey rocks) - i wonder what pixies albums would sound like live to 2 track - not nearly as good as catholics ones. anyone disagree? the catholics were awesome in ireland last year - and even made the pixies songs sound better than they do on the album.
pixies were awesome - but we love you just the way you are frank. dont change man! cheers

I for one would not want to see a reunion. I like Frank much better on his own. His songwriting is constantly evolving. I love the Pixies but Frank is writing the best material of his career and it would be a total slap in the face to the Catholics who have been with Frank for just about the same number of years as the Pixies were. |

I think the only way they could do it would be if they pulled a Talking Heads type deal--get together once they get inducted to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and play one or two songs. And yes, they will get inducted, probably not for about 20 years though, kind of a Velvet Underground situation. In 20 years I'm guessing the Pixies will be more of a household name, just a guess. |

Red Flag time!
Can I admit to liking Frank Black & The Catholics new stuff, and The Breeders new stuff too? Can I?
I think its a shame that things went the way they did, but I feel like musically things have settled down pretty well okay for all concerned.
Dave Lovering has got his science schtick at the Knitting Factory, which from what I understand is a pretty regular slot.
Joey Santiago has a new band called La Motta and far I know is doing pretty well too.
Its kind of like the Throwing Muses have reformed and despite being excited there's a part of me that wonders quite what new direction the stuff has gone in since you've got Tanya's & Kristins & David Narcizo's solo material sounding very different from each other...
IF someone else has already said this then please forgive me; but I reckon its best to just let sleeping dogs lie in the sand...

i don't know about David being a regular slot at the Knitting Factory.. it seems like he pretty much only performs before Frank shows, and the few skattered pixies-related things that happen.. i went and saw a Pixies cover band play in Silverlake called No. 13 Baby.. which i guess is kind of pathetic on its own.. (although they were pretty great).. but he actually opened for them and did his science deal..
Dave Lovering may very well be doing what he wants to be doing.. but i doubt his sicence gig is bringing home much bacon, frankly.
i talked to him before one of Franks shows and he said Tanya Donnley asked him to play on her recent tour but he turned it down.. burnt out on the whole rock thing.. so if he's out of the scene, it is by choice.. i'm sure plenty of people would be happy to have him in their band.
as for Joey.. same thing. he's probably completely happy with where he's at, but i don't think i'd say The Martini's are exactly flourishing..
it was cool seeing him join Frank at the Knitting Factory back in May though.. he's definitely still got it.

Hey Wepeel hand over that box of my toys!
I say forget the reunion...I never saw the Pix live and it's kinda like watching the Beatles when I pop in one of their concerts in the VCR...such an enigma to a young man who grew up on Nirvana and Living Colour. Give me FB and the C's any day and we'll all keep them to our merry selves and be just fine.

Another thread like this one exists somewhere else in the forum. In there I said something that Jayhawk has said here in this one. If the same basic outfit decided they liked working together and recorded a new record, that would not kill me. Just please, none of that fairgrounds-playin' KC & the Sunshine Bachman Turner Little Feat Flock of the Doors CSNY bullhonkey. If the artistic chemistry was there, and Frank was the mad scientist in charge, it would probably turn out quite well. But somehow I doubt Kim's ego would ever allow for it (I know Frank's ego is huge also, but the Pixies and FBatC are HIS bands, and a band isn't the place to conduct personal improvement seminars).

While I wouldn't want to see a full blown Pixies reunion, I would LOVE to see Frank guesting on a Breeders concert/album. It's just to die for. |

Black Francis remains the single greatest statement ever made by a rock and roll band on the juvenile angst, confusion, rage and the general mystery of period in our lives we can all remember but never go back to. Nearly everything in the catalog, up to and including Dolittle has stood the test of time and they are never far from my turntable or player. That’s not to say Bossanova and Trompe and every thing that followed aren’t great music, just a different Frank The fact that FB&C covers of that period work so well at the shows has more to do with nostalgia and the timeless quality of the tunes. Hey I wait with everyone else to shout out ‘ you are the son of a mf’.
That said if there were ever a reunion I would plunk down whatever they were asking to be there, to hear the harmonies of FB and KD one more time. Frank knows how to use the instruments he has available to him and Kim was just a voice in his choir but the sound he used her to created will be stuck in my head until the day I die.

Most of the tours that the pixies did with the exception of the last year and some most every show had the same setlist! With the exception of playing a song then not the next night or playing them out of order! Nevertheless the same songs over and over! Don't get me wrong I love the pixies and would gladly pay any price to see them play again, but if it was this way it wouldn't be as fun as an improv setlist! |

I never got to see the Pixies, and I love them as much as I love FB / FB&C, and more than any other band for that matter. But I wouldn't want to see them get back together, as it would probably be for the wrong reasons..... money! Why risk spoiling the great things they did in the 80's and early 90's, when Frank can sit back and bask in the glory of being a musical pioneer.
The Sex Pistols, New Order, Pink Floyd (100 times) etc etc have all done comebacks and I think its just done for money and not so much for the love of music. |

Would be nice, but, hasn't Frank said he would only do it if it was on the moon? So if you want to see it happen start e-mailing NASA. Barring a trip into space (or some Willie Nelson-esque tax problems for Frank) it won't happen.
Definately would be nice and more credible than the Stones or the Pistols but I'm not about to hold my breath...I don't think Kim and Frank will ever share the same stage again...

I heard the Survivor guy is already talking to the Russians about doing a space version. So maybe we should be calling them.

That would be a perfect scenario! (The Heads reunion was pretty damn good)
Here's a new tangent to the thread. If they did get inducted and play at the RHF, what two songs should they play??
I think an 80 year old David Bowie would love to induct them . . |
