Why doesn't this album get any respect?

I think the first 3 songs are probably the best first three songs of any Pixies album...perhaps.

Great album, although in my opinion, some of the songs can be a little annoying at times (Is She Weird). My favorite Pixies album is Trompe.

if i had to choose between Surfer Rosa and Bossanova or death... I would choose to listen to Surfer Rosa one more time and then death

point being: Bossa is fucking awsome...but not quite the best (in my opinion)

I know Carolynanna, I didn't check that email address until it was too late. I rarely check that address, actually, it's sort of my "ultra-public" one which I use for signing up with everything.

I agree with Golly. This hurts, but

1: Surfer Rosa
2: Bossanova
3: Come on Pilgrim
4: Dollittle
5: Trompe Le Monde

Oh man I totally agree. That is one of my favorite Pixies albums of all time!! I remember i borrowed my co-worker's copy of that cd and listened to it for 4 times that day. I love every single song, especially All Over the World and Allison

I guess I like to be a little bit odd. Don't get me wrong, I love Doolittle and Surfer Rosa but Bossanova has a special place in my heart.:)

Bossanova has a special place in my heart as well. While Surfer Rosa was my first exposure to the Pixies, I didn't care for it at the time. I was weened on a steady diet of Nevermind and early Beatles, so anything that didn't sound like that wasn't really my game. A few months later I was at my local cool record store and happened upon a used copy of Bossanova. I have been told since on several occassions that finding a used copy of a Pixies album is extemely rare, and so I'm sure that this was divine intervention. On a whim (as I often do with used bin records) I picked it up and fell instantly in love. The first song to really strike me was Velouria, and that song and indeed the whole record started my love for the music of Mr. Black, which has grown into the obsession it is today. Bossanova was my starting point, and I love the entire record (as I do everything by pixies and FB) and it takes second place to no Pixies record. Not to say it's number one however, I hate to rank things, so I just say I love them all equally. These records are like my children, I could never pick which one I liked best.

Oh yeah I totally agree w/you, each Pixies album is like if you are picking your favorite kid, you just can't do that. Each album brings a uniqueness to it. Not all the albums are the same, which I think it is so cool. They always manage to change their style during their 5 years as a band. They are a very legendary band in my opinion, even though they broke up about 10 yrs. ago (well officially).

I love Hang Wire, awesome song!! I love it when Kim goes "we're going higher" :)

Bossanova was my first born along with Neds Atomic Dustbin and Pearl Jam(whom I later swapped for a Neds single) Seriously, one or two of the songs off Bossanova have dated abit more then the rest of the Pixies albums, like Dig for Fire(over produced drums and I always though it sounded of it's time unlike the rest of the Pixies stuff, timeless) and All Over the World, when The Pixies strayed away from thier two minute song limit(apart from Vamos with Joe's brillantly crazy solo taking up much of the song)

But yeah, i know I am sort of contradiction myself, but yeah, still, Bossanova is VERY close to my heart. It is something that I listen to almost all the time. To me, that album pulls me in each time.

I gave my brother a copy of it, and he said the album was good, but he preferred Surfer Rosa. He said Bossanova had a "spacy" feel to it.:)

Dig for Fire just rocks, well to me it does.:) The first song I learned on bass.;)

Sorry. Bossanova is a masterpiece, and I love all of the tracks, but I wouldn't consider it my favourite pixies album. It sounds, how should I say it, more "produced" and not as raw as come on pilgrim and surfer rosa, and I really really love that rawness... it isn't just production, though, it's the song themselves too... I've always thought that Doolittle sounds like raw surfer rosa songs, but much much more produced...

Rock Music, Is She Weird, Hang Wire, Veloria, Down to the Well and Blown Away are so fanatastic along with Ana, Cecilia Ann and Havalina that I'm going to listen to it right now!( and the rest of the songs whom I love so dearly!)

I agree, Ana is a wonderful song, but it didn't hit me hard until I learned how to play it and realized just how brilliant that man is. Also, I loved his play on words with the song. I forget what they call that now, but he uses it alot I think. As for Bossanova being my fav Pixies album, oh my golly. I went out on a limb and bought Doolittle and Bossanova on the same day, not even knowing who the Pixies were. I just loved the covers. But it took me a while to get into it like Doolittle. I think it gives a perfect mix of raw quality and produced sound. It is...my favorite Pixies album.

Yeah, i hear you on that one. I was always entranced by the beauty of "Ana", but when I figured it out on guitar those chord changes just hit me like a ton of bricks. It was truly humbling, something so simple yet so damn profound.

And I love, LOVE how it switches keys for the second verse. You don't really notice it if you're just listening, but it's beautiful how he can switch everything down a semi-tone and still have it sound great.

god, i love the way it sounds so eighties(even tho it was recorded in the 90's), but am weird. those dated drums, that complete 'timefulness'. but, you know, when you think of all the pixies albums, they all have a kind of time and place. trompe le monde really has to be listened to on your own, so you can concentrate on all the detail and magnificent little noises. i personally usually listen to boss' when i'm really tired or dreamy. i mean, could you listen to surfer rosa when fallin asleep? it would just wake me up and make me sing along.

in your face, space coyote!!

You know i think about it and try to come up with an answer but it's no use. In my opinion there is no greatest Pixies album, they are all magnificent, absolute cast iron, stone wall classics !!!

Even the 'Pixies At The BBC' live album is amazing (with many of the versions on it, actually better than the album versions, 'There Goes My Gun' being a good example of that i think)). It even has a mind blowing version of 'Wild Honey Pie' by The Beatles which is how The Beatles should have performed all their songs.

God i love The Pixies, i think i'm gonna cry !!!

Bossanova is great, but I think Trompe le Monde was the best Pixies album. It seems to me that Bossanova just doesn't have a lot of diversity within the songs. The sonics seem to rarely change. There are a lot of surfy guitars and a lot of distorted guitars; that's about it. Trompe le Monde, on the other hand, is full of sundry sounds combined onto one extremely variegated 40 minute album. Sonics change quite a bit. Lots of different instruments: accoustic guitars, pianos, synths, clean-sounding electric guitars, tablas, echoes, delays, and many weird effects. Every song on the album is dissimilar to each other. The first minute of "The Sad Punk" is one of the rawest, hardest, and most full of energy songs ever peformed. "Umass" is quite straight-foward rock. The intro to "Space (I Believe In)" sounds like a combination between funk and metal. "The Navajo Know" has some surfy guitars in addition to accoustic instruments playing a sequence of four minor chords which makes for a very unique song (that is also really catchy in my own opinion). But the songs themselves on Trompe are what really make the album great. Sometimes, I'll listen to "Lovely Day" and think that songs don't get much better than that. Then, I'll go back to "Letter to Memphis" and be proven wrong. That's why Trompe le Monde is my favorite Pixies album. Don't get me wrong, I love Bossanova for great songs like "Hangwire", "Rock Music", "All Over the World", and (especially) "The Happening", which might be the single greatest song in the history of time for me.
