This newly released PS2 extreme sports game featurs Pixies' "Wave of Mutilation". I was pleasently surprised to hear it right after Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' With Disaster" .. LOL..
Just thought I'd let you guys know. If there are any gamers here, be sure and check it out, its loads of fun.

I'm not a big wakeboarding fan I'm afriad, so I'll be sticking to Zelda and Metroid Prime for the moment :)
That is interesting to hear none the less though. Game soundtracks that feature bands are usually full of mind gratingly cliche punk and nu-metal tracks, and generally suck a lot of arse. |

Game soundtracks are improving, and will continue to do so. It all started with Full Throttle, back in the day, which was a pretty phenomenal soundtrack, especially at the time. The music was perfect for the game. Grim Fandango had an awesome soundtrack, too. Those are the two games that really stick in my mind as great. And of course, no complaints about the soundtrack for any of the Star Wars games, from Dark Forces (hey, MIDI was the only option back in the day) all the way up to Outcast.
First person shooters are another story, but I guess if you play crappy games, you get crappy music. And if you think the music industry is bad for stifling creativity, the gaming industry is about 10 times worse. Good old Electronic Arts is buying out everyone and becoming a monopoly in publishing as well, meanwhile, scores of people with no patience for games with some artistic merit or creativity buy into the latest garbage. Come on - Deer Hunter as a number one best seller?!
There are exceptions - Max Payne did pretty well, and that was a very well produced game, and The Sims is hugely popular and that was a very innovative game (although the scores of expansions are anything but). Market forces have pretty much killed the adventure game genre, though, which is really sad. Games like Grim Fandango deserved to be making a lot more than games like Soldier of Fortune or Command & Conquer 15.
And if you own a console, good luck... it's even worse. Anyway, I don't know how that turned into a rant, but there you have it. Other gamers? Actually, this reminds me of a new topic... |

SSX 3 (which I am very excited about, being a self-proclaimed demigod at SSX Tricky) actually has a Queens of the Stone Age track on it. (Which one, I'm not sure...) |

On another note,, Wakeboarding Unleashed also has a Pavement track on it. But the other songs are like crap, IMO.

Assuming you're implying that the plural as opposed to the singular is the problem, then fair enough, though I can still think of a few exceptions (but I tend to agree). If you're talking about a band and not just the in-house composer, then my points still stand, in particular about Full Throttle. But I'll check your sites out when I'm not at work. |

I linked you to my website because it takes a look at a lot of the kind of stuff you were going on about in your rant (albeit more console based). I'd like to hear what you think, criticism is encouraged. |
