On one of our local Radio Stations they play a game called Rock Lines. First they read out a short lyric and the caller has a time limit to answer what song it is then they win. What they usually win is CDs (if they can't answer then that CD which the lyric is from goes into a pot), unfortunatly all you can win here is the respect of the forum. So lets make it that whoever guesses the title and artist gets to give the next song line and if noone gets it in a day then you get to give another lyric. But don't make it some obscure B side track from 1932 that nobody can possibly get, but obscure enough to make it interesting. I'll start with an easy one (I 'll give you a hint to get it going, check my profile), "If she says she can do it, she can do it, she don't make false claims" |

Okay nobody got it so theonecontender should go again. I can't believe between all of us we're stumped, I'm so disappointed. I thought that (collectively) we should know just about everything.

That would be Sloan - Underwhelmed. If that's a word. I know it's not cause I looked it up.
Alright, take a stab:

The song is called "Therefore I Am" and it is by the great Jim O'Rourke from the album Insignificance. Great song, great album, great artist. I think I'll do another one, cause I'm like that.

Yes, you were supposed to know that. Insignificance is a really good album. You're also supposed to know the new qoute. Or someone should. |

Cripes, I don't know, and it doesn't seem like anyone is playing anymore. If its not answered by tomorrow you'll have to give us an easier one.

Maybe we should have a weekly theme, pick a band or a genre or something, and take lines from those groups of songs. Since it's "any song" now, it's wayyyy too difficult unless we're all walking databases of music lyrics. |

Barto, that is an excellent idea, man. I think the game would move along a lot more smoothly that way, and a lot more people would feel inclined to participate. |

Well, why doesn't EVERYBODY just tell me I suck then. I mean sure, I'm superior to you all in lyrical pulling-out-from-ass-ability, and yet I'm made to feel like the chump. A cox on all of you! The answer to the above lyric is "Girl Named Captain" by Robert Pollard from his first solo record "Not In My Airforce". Great song and indeed an awesome lyric. So, Barto, P Twin, suggest a band or a genre or "something". I'm game.

I don't know, it works on the radio station. Your lyrics are too hard to get. Give us a chorus or something for the love of fuck! Oh on the radio station if noone gets the lyric then they play a small small snippet of the song and if they get it they get a Pizza73 meal.
Do you even know what a plethora is? |

my last one was sorta the chorus. alright, I'll give you a really easy one. really easy.
"your unreal is here now"
The album came out in 96 on Matador. They're not spanish.... the drummer is asian.... one of guitar players is now in a famous "supergroup".... if that's not enough, I don't know what is. |

Manic Depression - Hendrix
Sorry, I sorta cheated...I knew it was Hendrix but for the life of me, I could not match the words to the song, so I had to search for them...good choice.

Hmmm... Speedy M, I'm not sure you're allowed to tell them the title of the song in the quote. :) Then again, none of them seem to have heard of Chavez or Jim O'rourke. Maybe you should try a line from the Breeders. :) |
