I was listening to Trompe Le Monde on headphones the other day and I started to realize how the production sounds a lot like something John Lecki would do (for the record, John Lecki has produced classic albums like The Fall's Wonderful and Frightening World of and This Nation's Saving Grace along with Radiohead's The Bends). It's just the way it combines really loud guitars with layered atmospherics. In particular, the "Motorway to Roswell" reminds me a lot of The Fall's "Disney Dream Debased" in terms of production and overall mood.
I personally think that the signature John Leckie sound is an overabundance of reverb. Especially on The Verve and Posies records he's done. I don't really see that here. Maybe his older asthetic from his early XTC days. Trompe also has everything over compressed which is another thing different. Leckie seems to under compress a lot. Aside from The Stone Roses record, Leckie always seems to produce the record before the best record a band has ever made, for example - "The Bends" before "OK Computer" and "The Posies - Dear 23" before "Frosting on the Beater" He's still a good producer/enginner though.
