OK, pretty straightforward, no? from best to worse?
1. Dog in the Sand - absolutely best cover. simple, direct, stright forward. It completely captures the feel of the album: rootsy, simple beautiful.
2. Self titles - the cover is among the weaker pictures in this stunning presentation, colorful and lovely, captures the feel of Frank's music.
3. Black Letter Days - again, a simple cover' DitS style, dark and moody. The only weak thing is the font of the letters.
4. Pistolero - Frank's "tough guy" album, has a touch, western-ish cover.
5. Show Me Your Tears - if it is indeed the cover, it's nice. Not my fav, though.
6.. FB and the C - wierd cover, nice puppet.
7. Teenager of the Year - simple, clear, straightforward, not special. the pictures with the noose are nicer, but not on the cover.
8. Devil's Workshop - no, no, no. but the lettering is nice, though
9. Cult of Ray - all hail Windows 1995

intriging,i would have COR as my clear favourite. In fact one of my faves of all time.
DITS, as you say very good - dusty, brooding and very atmospheric.
Not keen on DW either

I particularly like the oddballs cover. Great pic of a crazy Frank! :) from there Id say #2 is TOTY, #3 BLD, and then they are all pretty equal after that. Nice comment about COR, LOL! |

I like either the Frank Black cover the most or the Cult of Ray the most. I love the face logo most of all, though. I loooove my Cult of Ray mobile. |

Man the TOTY cover is what convinced me to buy that record (well, that plus a review in some magazine). That is quite an amusing picture. |

Surfer Rosa cover is lovely! I'm not a huge fan of the Frank Black covers. Pistolero's probably my favorite. |

I don't know if I have a favorite cover, but I do think that the one from his first solo album sums up the contents and the feel of the disc itself. You know, all that Brian Wilson/California/youth stuff on about half of the tracks.
It's a simple design but it works for me. (Perhaps it works for me BECAUSE it's a simple design...) |

There was an interesting thing that I read many weeks ago, where frank was lamenting the cult of ray album cover. he said he was'nt suprised that american records dropped him. interesting.
I agree with omer, i think it is the worst one.
is it? |
