what's the lowdown on Franksters' guitar, that dreadnought?

Howd' it get the hole in it, etc?
How long's he had it, how does it stay in tune so well when he's wailin' on it, etc?

I recently saw some pic taken years ago ('98 I think) he has that same guitar, and it has the hole even back then.

Any forum members who know ( or who are into guitars ) please reply...

( Note: I actually don't care about that guitar, I just wrote that to get something going. What I do care about is the telecaster Dave Philips plays, but unless you think so too I probably won't get very many replies ! )

I heard that he made the hole himself for the love of the instrument. He wants to show his affection for the guitar in a different way in than in the past.

I take it your talking about the acoustic Takamine EN-10. My dad offered to buy me a new guitar for christmas 2002, so I asked him to try and pick up a Takamine as I knew it was the same brand Frank that uses. So he bought the guitar 2nd hand from a musician called Rory Faithfield in Dublin. www.faithfield.com. Christmas passed and I was really pleased with it etc. It's only later from watching the e-music performance of Mr Grieves that I discovered my dad had inadvertently bought me the very same model of Takamine as Frank's. It might be pathetic but It was such a buzz to know we share the same model guitar.

Sorry for the ramble, as for your question, like chipawayboy says the hole is just caused by the pick constantly hitting the wood below the strings. Mines got a sizable dent from where the previous owner strummed which I hope to make into a whole myself some day. I think Frank started using that guitar again after his equipment was stolen some time ago. He talks about this guitar in the KEXP interview www.kexp.org/listen/in_studio/frankblack/frankblack_intvw.asx" target="_blank">http://www.kexp.org/listen/in_studio/frankblack/frankblack_intvw.asx
