If you're looking for more bands in the vein of the ones you listed, I'd say Pavement, Velvet Underground, Replacements, and Guided by Voices would be safe bets |

Failure. Get "Fantastic Planet." It's almost 70 minutes long and it's a beautiful album from start to finish.
And you seem to like drugs, so they'd be good for you since Failure can be eerily dissonant and trippy (though I don't do drugs and I thoroughly enjoy them). Ken Andrews is the lead singer and guitarist, who is in A Perfect Circle now.

It's nice to see a Spoon fan, albeit an impatient one. :) |

Spoon are awesome...I just recently got into them. I picked up their newest album a couple of weeks ago and its great! I also have a mix cd of their stuff that a friend gave me, and that is even better. Finding really good bands like them nowadays is like a breath of fresh air, I swear! |

I think this is more of a "General Chat" thread.
Jim, you better be on this one.

spoon is great - i saw britt daniel give two intamite acoustic solo performances in october and they blew me away.
i'd also check out the new stephen malkmus and the jicks album, "pig lib." if you want to move into the more odd stuff, but stuff that frank really likes try and get the reid paley album revival, produced by eric drew feldman.
oh - and anything by mike watt is worth a listen

Finally, someone else talking about the great BABOON.
Anyone who still doesn't own the best CD of 2002, Something Good Is Going To Happen To You by Baboon, need's to get their head checked.
Or have someone make you a copy.

Actually I'm a Boon fan from New York, but try not to hold that against me.
Found them by way of the Toadies/Burden Brothers. Saw the Toadies three times in 2001. Waiting for the BB to tour. The Toadies certainly are a band missing from your list.

Check out Mercury Rev - if I can extrapolate your tastes from that list you should very much enjoy their last two albums. |

I REALLY like Superdrag's "In The Valley of Dying Stars". I think it's one of the best rock albums ever made.
Burning Airlines and The Dismemberment Plan are also really amazing. - I plug these three bands a lot because I think they are all criminally under appreciated. The latter two are on the now defunct Desoto label which has a lot of other similar and similarly good bands.

I've been out of the loop for a while now.
When did DeSoto eat it?

About a year ago? They're still operating on an archival basis, but they're not putting out anything new. It's unfortunate because I think they were just hitting their peak.
