This came up, inappropriately I admit, in a Survivor game but the riddle has yet to be solved. I currently have in my possession three versions of Modern Age, one of which is in question.

1) Devil's Workshop
2) Kitchen Tapes
3) ???

I was under the impression it was from Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day, because it has a similar sound and everything, but I've been told by several people that Modern Age was not on SSMVGD. Can anyone shed some light on whether this is, in fact, from SSMVGD or where it might be from?

It was definitely not on SSMVGD. Is it a full band version that you possess? I have a full band version of Modern Age, which is not the DW version. If I'm going to guess, I'll guess it's from the same session as "Everyone Is Wrong," therefore making it a John Peel session from around "FB&TC" era. I'll dig for more info, I know I have it...

My guess was right. I remembered where I downloaded it and went back there...it is indeed from a John Peel session in 1996 (ok, closer to COR then). Check it out:

Cool, I just checked it out and that is indeed the one. Nice detective work, many thanks.

while we're talking about this wonderful song, i have some questions.
on DW it has a lot of instrumentation. here's my guess as to what the line-up is:

acoustic: FB
lead: joey
electric: morris tepper
pedal steel: dave p

is that right?

and, does dave p play lead on bartholemew?

Hmmm... that's a good question, I'm going to have to go back and listen to it some more before I can venture my opinion.
