how long have you been into Bona Roba?????????
a friend played me their disc about 6 months ago and i've been hooked since. i guess the thing i like about them (which i mentioned in another post) is that they have some attitude in their music. I hear alot of Stones in their sound, which is great because no one is doing that right now. everyone seems to be jumping on the strokes bandwagon.
they have a song called "operator" that also has some Frankblack-esque chords. i wonder how much they're influenced by him?
you should check out this review i found on them. The guy doing the reviewing hits the nail on the head (it's from www.sleazegrinder.com ):
They are obsessed with black pussy and spend their spare time popping pills. They write brilliant rock and roll songs with a bright pop buzz, and then cover them in filth and grit. They are everything the Manic Street Preachers promised, but were too English and limp-wristed to pull off. I've already mentioned them like five times, so it should come as no surprise when I say that Bona Roba are my new favorite band. They are NYC swagger and strut garage rock in it's purest form- and unlike the Strokes, who are rich boys with good record collections and connected daddys, and sound like some watered down version of the real thing on display here- Bona Roba have no pretensions of being the "darlings" of anything. In fact, half the people that know them hate them, which is always a sign that something good is going on. Anyway, they sound like a cross between the Rolling Stones and Velvet Underground- really -and they ought to be spitting caviar at their detractors this time next year. This is only a demo, so I'm not going to belabor you to buy anything, cuz you can't, yet- but you can download the songs from their website, which you ought to do right now, unless you want to just wait until your little sister is telling you about them.
