From the reviews I have been reading, it seems to me that Frank has been playing Cactus, among other songs, for almost every show. I find this interesting because I remember a thread that listed songs people would love to hear live, Cactus being one of them. I think Frank is reading. Wouldn't you read this stuff? I would. For a good laugh if anything.

So Frank, you rock man!

How about some Ether?

though, he might be playing CACTUS as a way of reminding the listening world that it is HIS song not Bowie's (it is the first track on the new Bowie album). Or just to remind Bowie that no one els can play it like Frank.

Heh... well, in that case, I'd really like to hear more from the earlier days like Orange/TOTY. :) But it really doesn't matter, because it's all great anyway, and he could just play one song over and over (except 666) and I would love it. He has been known to pop in on the forum every now and again when he felt his input was important (taping concerts, etc), but I'm sure he reads more than he posts and shakes his head at all of us. :)

hate blow this theory, but I heard him play "cactus" mid last year.. as much as we'd like to fantasize, i doubt he plans his set-lists around his fans.

In Homestar voice: "Yeah, you'we pwobabwy wight." I think he pretty much has songs that he is playing (the set lists for this tour have been pretty similar) coupled with what strikes him at the time and in whatever order seems to flow that particular evening. Which is why his shows #$^$#@^ing rock.

BTW, change the pants moment: In the middle of the opener, Gouge Away, which really rocks, seeing FB turn to Dave and mouth Freedom Rock! We were really desperate to hear Freedom Rock last year, and we even talked to Dave and he said he didn't know it yet. Clearly not the case anymore! :)

He said in an interviewer, asking him "why the more recent folkish/countryish approach" and he said "Listen to Subbaculture, listen to Cactus, it's always been there" Which makes me think he finds Cactus to be a song that fits in well with what he's recording nowadays, hence him using it.

Also, much of the subject matter/imagery of his songs lately seem to dwell on love/ past love/ past lovers/ lost love concepts. Cactus fits this perfectly. It is a nice addition to the setlist, and also one of everyone's favorite Pixie songs. Also, I think it's great when they play a pixie tune that Kim had vocal parts in (considerable) and then belts them out live like there's nothing missing at all. Anyway, seems a good fit.

Also I agree very much with the Bowie theory, plus, if Bowie started playing one of *cough* my songs, or told me he liked it, or whatever, and I hadn't played it in a while, I'd consider mixing it in, or maybe just revisiting it live.... ok i'm rambling.

He certainly does visit the board every now and then, but I don't think he's picking songs off of peoples' "favorites lists".

I believe Frank Black posts here under the name frankusblackus. I totally love it when they play Pixies tunes live - like Wade says, they can belt them out like they were the first people to play them.

I don't care if he plays any of the pixies songs he's playing now, but I'd have a fucking heart attack if he ever played motorway to rosswell or letter to memphis
