Yeah, I know all FB & the Catholics albums are live albums. I'm talking about putting out a live show.
Among the more positive "trends" these days (in my opinion) are bands releasing their own, low profile, limited edition live "bootlegs". Pearl Jam are of course the most famous (and most extreme) example of this, but Pere Ubu, Superchunk, and Ween have also done similar things in the past couple of years.
The Catholics shows lately have been great and some of us (like me) are live music addicts (I even love it when B-sides are filled out with live recordings!), but when we go out we enjoy the music much more if we're not fussing with a concealed tape recorder. So I don't tape or trade anything and I think an official live release of some sort would be grand (especially if it's an entire unedited show!). I'd be among the first in line.
Yeah, I know Frank reads this board. And I'm sure he reads it for mild amusement rather than for suggestions from internet dorks, so this isn't meant to be taken that way. I'm not sure how it's meant to be taken. Blah! |

In accordance with you: even though it would be technically redundant, it would actually be equally hilarious - why not a live record of their best songs/singles, a la the Cure "Acoustic Hits" - that way it would be a best of comp, but attractive to everyone because, inevitably they're different versions (i.e. the slow "Six Sixty-Six", "Tossed" with vocals, "Where Is My Mind?" with the entire ROOM singing along - that I would buy as a single!). Besides, bar band songs are meant to hear live in a bar - a lot of these Catholic tunes sound more at home at a show than "live from their recording hut, take #15, 3:15 am."
Then I get to the part where I truly don't know what I'm talking about..

A live album would be a truly wonderful thing. I couldn't agree more. The sooner it is released, the happier I'll be.------Jayhawk |

I think Frank Black should make a greatest hits album like all these other moronic bands do when their career isn't even near over. Lenny Kravitz has a greatest hits album. How many "hits" does this over-rated, jimi hendrix wannabe, butt munch have? I swear he doesn't have anymore than 5 radio songs. "Lenny Kravitz: Mediocre Hits"? Yeah. But not greatest.
i don't really think frank should make a greatest hits album. I just wanted to diss lenny kravitz. But a live album from Frank would be a treat.

Aye, live and a bunch of crowd-sing-alongs. Very fitting!

There was a download on the net of one of the bands shows in Sweeden, I think it was played on a radio station over there. I have it, is anyone else enjoying it?

If Frank Black and the Catholics released a Frank Black and the Catholics live album then would it be a live album just containing FB&C songs, or including earlier FB songs??? I'd prefer FB & FB&C songs.
I hope that FB never releases a greatest hits album as I never see the point in them as they never contain my favourite songs. For example, The Cure greatest hits is full of pretty much most of the songs that I don't like... i.e. all of their commerical hits. Commercial hits are generally shite in my opinion. A live album would be much better value than a greatest hits as Ive got all of the hits on cd already. Saying that I'd probably still buy a GH as it gives more support to Frank.

a greatest hits would be so rediculous for him because i mean how many songs has he written? how could you possibly trim his catalog down to like < 20 songs? you could do it with pixies but i mean now its hopeless (and i like it that way). i wonder if he keeps track of how many songs hes written like Rivers apparently does.
