It had been seven years since Frank Black had graced the state of Indiana with his presence and you could tell!! The crowd was so into this SOLD OUT show tonight and Frank was feeding off the energy of this show. I guarantee he will never miss an opportunity to play here again. Frank even defied the Birdy's "bad acoustics" stigma - because the show sounded better than any show I have seen yet and the crowd was definately as rowdy as I've ever seen , at any concert.
The songs in no order: Where is my mind? opener bullet 666 mr grieves cactus gouge away robert onion hermaphroditos sir rockabye - AWESOME! I want rock n roll - yes Monkey gone to heaven california bound calistan los angeles House of the pope Nadine Beautiful day / horrible day Lorraine headache so hard to make things out velvety crackity jones Cold heart of stone - encore Jane - encore Nimrod's son - encore Black rider - encore
After the show my 4 friends and I talked with Frank for a while and got our picture taken with him and he said that he couldn't believe how into the show the crowd was! INCREDIBLE!
Then we said goodbye to Frank and snuck off to the side of the venue and got a private card trick magic show with David Lovering - in return I got him so stoned - with the White Widow oddly enough, and he thanked me over and over. He did some really cool card tricks - pretty amazing. What a great night!! See you in San Diego Frank!!!!!!!

I was at this show last night and my ears are still ringing. I have to agree with the previous review-this one rocked big time. Lovering was great-my wife was asked to participate in one of the displays of scientific phenomena and got a meteorite and an autograph from Dave. We were able to get Dave Phillips autpgraph as well and spent some time talking to Rich Gilbert before the show. We also were lucky enough to get Frank's pick and a drumstick at the end of the show. A very good night indeed.
A couple of other songs they played last night were Whiskey in Your Shoes and How You Went So Far. I don't think they played So Hard To Make Out, though. At least we did get 1 Pistolero song-this was a point in the show where Frank switched from acoustic guitar to electric and they kicked it up another level. This band is so f-ing good it is a real treat to be able to see them in a place like Birdy's.
Now it's off to the Windy City for two more shows! That will make 5 shows in 10 days. Living in Indy is great when it comes to concerts. When bands are within a 2 hour drive, its very hard to resist jumping in the car. We couldn't resist this time around. |

Oh my God!!! What a show, what a show. When the music started up I was either saved or possesed. Trascendental for sure. Seen Frank 5 times now and this was the best overall show bar none. The crowd was totally into it; for once I wasn't the only maniac. It was more than a concert, it was a communal experience, a brotherhood of Frank fans uniting in a common cause. The love in the air... Okay, that's probably sounding a little weird. But it was so cool. Even the moshers (kinda sorta moshing anyway) were gracious. Arms around eachother and at times arms around me -- a complete stranger. Frank and the boys appreciated the response too. The moment he walked onto the stage he was smiling at the level of cheering until the moment he left when he stopped before leaving for the night just to listen to the crowd and take in the praise. His smile held both suprise and thanks. He looked humbled. Actually, the screaming was so tremendous that the boys didn't even make it off the stage before the encore. Have never seen that happen before. They simply picked their instruments back up and began again, everyone with big grins including Frank who was saying something to us in the mike, (thanking us, I'm sure) but the noise was so loud I couldn't hear him. No talking during this one either...no need. FB & the C's said it all with their expressions and through their music.
The new songs sounded great by the way. Goodbye Lorraine especially pleasing.
Anyway, the setlist in the other Indy folder is dead-on. With my favorite part of the show being this incredibly manic song progression of Gouge Away into Velvety into I Want Rock and Roll into Crackity Jones into a few other fast songs I can't recall. They definitely changed their set to accomodate the energy of the crowd (very cool move by FB & the boys). Given the tone of the night, ending with The Black Rider was perfect. We were left frothing and rabid for more.
I drove over 3 hours from the St. Louis area to attend and was so impressed that next time even if he comes to St. Louis will be making the drive over again. God, that was a great show! |

i agree w/ all the comments, and had the pleasure of a frank autograph and photo w/ frank. my photos of the show are relatively shitty, but that's the price of a disposible camera. also, i borrowed a pen from some kind soul to get frank's autograph, and returned it to the wrong guy. so if the penless one is reading this, i apologize. i'll send you my best frank photo in return. |

just wanted to say that the show in indianapolis was fantastic! i came prepared with a cd booklet, a sharpie, and a camera. just in case. after reading about how frank is about autographs and pictures, i was not getting my hopes up. well, needless to say, i hung around outside by the bus after the show and sure enough he came out and started to sign autographs and pose for pictures. he even used my sharpie to sign about 15 autographs, apparently i was the only one who had one. i will say that frank was nothing short of being a perfect gentleman. he listened to what everyone had to say, signed autographs, in some cases, whole stacks of cds for some fans, and posed for any pictures that anyone wanted. he even bent down to pick up autographs that were dropped on the ground. i didn't expect that at all! it was an awesome experence to be in his presence and feel like he truly appreciated his fans. thanks, frank, for a terrific evening and please stop in indianapolis whenever you can. |

yeah, i'm realizing that i can't send really big files (even if they are zipped), though i haven't tried yet. my home computer (with all my pics) is all fuckered. i'll see what i can't figure out.
can i post them on the FTTP site for frankblack.net? i tried to log on, but it wasn't working for me. maybe i could just send the pics to the admin and they can post them.
i am thePLASTIC, or you may refer to me as plastic kid if you prefer. chris works too.
