Pong/Thalassacrocy comes to mind...just the way they're 1 and 2 on the album, and they just kick your ass from start to finish. Black Rider also makes you want to get up and dance. I can't deny doing the swim or mash potato to Black Rider 2. |

I have to back up Man Who Was Too Loud, and the brilliant pairing of Pong/Thalassocracy on teenager. When I listen to those in my car, I sometimes wonder if people next to me think I'm having a seizure or something |

Chip Away Boy and most of the songs on Teenager of the Year (hell, even the album cover is FUN)
Actually though, almost all Frank Black song's are fun...it's a tough call I guess |

Don't know if it's related or not, but in the Philip K. Dick novel, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" the term "Andy" is used for androids. Possibly I'm reading too far into it...Probably am, actually, but every time I hear that song I can't help but think of the book and the movie based on it "Bladerunner." |

OK, I'm just going to take Whispering Weeds at face value. It seems to me that the song is about a walk he (the subject of the song) frequently takes in a favorite place, and there's a photograph nailed to a tree to memorialize a dude named Andy. He sees it every time, and the only info available on the photo is the guy's name and the fact that he's dead ("not sure how he got killed"). So he pays a little respect and moves on. Maybe I'm being too simple, but I walk a lot and there are small things you notice and acknowledge habitually and wonder about. |

I agree with what a lot have said with Whispering Weeds, Pray for the Girls, and Pong + Thall. No one mentioned Superabound, but for me it has a fun, nervous, jumpy kind of energy (after the intro, of course). |

today's (many days') most fun:
The Marsist. As I mentioned elsewhere, this is just the craziest song in my CD book. I went very nuts when they played it a couple years ago at the Troub. FB had declared the show officially over, told everyone that they could go home if they wanted. The ugly house lights came up and the place no longer looked like a respectable showplace. They launched into a whack-assed garage-punk set starting with that one, Remake/Remodel, then some stuff that I don't think I've heard before. For my lady and I it was a siamese twin peak experience. |
