march 12 (yesterday) was the anniversary of that tragic occurance, apparently. my dad heard them talking about it on the radio. they interviewed an old lady who witnessed it as a child. she said she went out her back door, and the rest of her family went out the front. she never saw her family again.

it's such a sad event, and i think frank really captured the feel of the whole thing in his song.

funny thing.... I found myself exactly at the dam site on Tuesday, the day before exactly 75 years from when it broke. I love it up there, hadn't been up pin years but I got a work assignment and ended up reading about the dam disaster at the local fire house. It blew my mind cause I love that song, it's one of FB's best.

It's definitely a masterpiece of his. It's very emotional and chilling...anyone else get chills listening to it? It's very dream-like and surreal, the pictures you get in your head of this giant wall of water just plowing through an entire region...so tragic.

Another thing I couldn't help but notice is a bit ironic, considering all that water... Today the lush green canyon that I remember as San Francisquito Canyon is spookily stark and bare, far fewer trees and green-ness due to an enormous fire that burned for days and days last June. Once again, I believe folks lost there homes to disaster, although I don't think you can pin this one on anyone but Nature herself.

I heard the tail end of the NPR report on the next day, the 75th anniversary. Here's the link to NPR's web article, I think there is audio from the broadcast.
