I've got a gut...I'm sick of it...so, instead of developing an eating disorder, can anyone give any tips as to which is/are the best exercises to slim down my gut? |

Drink a lot of water (zero calories and it fills you up) and go for a brisk walk a half hour every day. Any exercise will work off your gut. Sit-ups are no more helpful to your gut than walking. I lost 25 pounds last year just by walking and hiking. It was nice bringing several old pairs of pants out of retirement! |

Lay off the sugars. No cokes or sweet tea or donuts and the like and go easy on the carbs.
If you have more in the middle than you need, it's most likely due to eating excessive amounts of sugars and carbs.
Now don't go totally Atkins (though it worked for me...till I stopped!!!) but really lay off the sweetness.
And just walking and drinking lots and I mean LOTS of water like the fine gentleman above said.
That way, we won't call you El Fatto behind your fat ass back.
Just kidding. You know I love ya. Tell the Bennies I said Hi.

I always feel my body loves me when i drink water. You can't go wrong with water (unless there are hazardous chemicals in it, or it's from the Dead sea). You are supposed to drink 8 cups a day (64 oz.).
I've heard that sometimes when you think you are hungry, you are really only thirsty and water suffices.
Now if you excuse me, I've got 13.832 oz. of water to drink, then my water intake is complete for the day.

Eat your vegetables! Go out and play!
Don't do any wacko diet thing. BLT's water/walking suggestion is excellent (getchoo a walkman!) And honest to god, if you actually eat the amount of fruit & vegetables that you're supposed to every day, you won't have room for much junk food on top of that. Also, chew your food!
There you have it, straight from a mother. |

Aye, whole plant-based foods are great, lots of fibre to fill you up, lots of vitamins, minerals and micronutrients, low in fat and calories, lots of water too.
Avoid any white processed foods - white sugar, white flour, white rice, etc. These food are typically empty calories/filler, and don't really register as 'food'.
Don't eat cheese and avoid dairy, it's typically high in fat and no iron. Again, it's just 'filler'. (And the main protein in cows milk, casein, is what they use in a lot of glues..super sticky stuff. Gotta wonder what it's doing in your gut.)
And get lots of excercise. Even walking is good, try to sweat. Higher-impact activies are really good, your body tends to trim-up with these. (Just jump in the same spot for 2mins every day..get one of those mini-trampolenes!) Ride your bike, etc.. Try to sweat at least once a day, preferably more.
And don't expect it all to go away quickly, that's really unhealthy.
And, if you can keep doing this once you've lost the weight, you won't have to worry about gaining it back. Most people go back to their old habits after losing weight, and gain even more weight...sad..
Good luck! =) |

Do cardio for more than 20 minutes like three times a week....up to 20 minutes uses stored energy in your body, anything over 20 minutes starts to use the energy in your fat cells and shrinks them down to tiny tiny things that make you look like Arnold.......oh yeah!!! |

I run at least 1.2 miles almost every day, do 151 situps, 30 or so push-ups, and about 10 - 20 pullups / chinups. I'm in better shape than most of my friends, so I'm pretty sure that my plan works. Also, I don't usually eat fastfood, and strictly drink water (and hard liquor).

When you're buying that double-cheeseburger with coke and fries, decline when asked to "supersize it". |

Get rid of eating too many carbs just incase it's what your body is getting chunk because of. I'd lower my fat intake, but not too much since you'll need it if you eat less carbs. Also, eat a good amount of protein. Do sit-ups, crunces, and the excercise where you lie on your back and lift your legs (keep 'em straight) six inches off of the ground, lift them higher, and bring them back to six inches off without touching the ground. If you have access to weight machines that apply a good amount of resistance while you do sit-up-like excercises, it's a very good idea, too. drink a lot of water, and i guess that should do it! either way you choose, good luck!

that is SOOO not true! sit-ups build muscle which in turn burn fat in that area all day and all night. walking only burns a little more than calories. if you don't believe me, then you'll have to explain to my belly why when i used to do sit-ups it had a full eight-pack, and when i used to do only other excercises it lost it all.

You do it your way, I'll do it mine. I'm limited to exercises that I actually enjoy. Sit-ups are no fun to me, and it's difficult to maintain an exercise regimen that's not enjoyable. Besides, you're supposed to exercise for more than 20 minutes. Anyone who can do sit-ups for more than 20 minutes is probably beyond the weight-loss stage anyway.

The reasoning behind the "151 situps" thing is completely bizzare and fucked up and quite impossible to explain without looking like a complete moron. Basically, I'm just a compulsive freak.

ok... this works. i guarantee it - especially after 4 years of rowing and long distance running. its basically a taoist exercise - sit against a wall on an 'invisible' chair (i.e. prop yourself up against the wall) and place your hands out in front of you (not on your lap). now - the hard part - breathe in and push your stomach muscles up towards your ribcage (you will feel them all flex). hold this for 10 seconds... then slowly relax the muscles and repeat this. doing 15 sets of 10 seconds a day will do the trick - and it will also work all 6 abs - instead of sit ups focussing on the top 2. worked for me. cheers
There may be no 'I' in team, but there's a 'ME' if you look hard enough. |

Actually exercising a particular area DOES NOT burn fat particularly in that area. Yes, sit-ups build ab muscles (that might explain your 8 pack), but they do not burn ab fat anymore than exercising any other part of your body.
Your body "says" I need energy burn fat. It does not say my abs need energy burn ab fat. Sorry I don't have a reference to support my claim, but several fitness advisors have told me this. |

Maybe it's just your 'winter weight'. The sky is gloomy, it's cold. When Spring finally comes, dance and do some gardening. |
