How big are the venues that Frank and the Catholics normally play? Do they sell out normally? I'm just trying to judge how well tickets are selling here. Originally, the show was to be at the 300 person West End Cultural Centre, but that sold out in a few days so it was moved to 800 person Le Rendez-vous. From what I hear, thats almost sold out and should be sold out by the weekend. From the sounds of it, thats rather impressive

I believe it was CBC, but I'm not sure. It was on when my dad picked me up from work.

BTW, you should get her to take it off Q94 simply because its q94

Well he's not really a mainstream artist. He's got his loyal following, but if you go up to random people and ask them who Frank Black is, most people will respond with a confused, "Who?"

Given the fact that Frank has never played in this city before, I'm suprised that some would be surprised about his show selling out so quickly. :) I'm sure there a ton of Pixies fans in the city, as well as those who like Frank's solo work. Of course, I'm not surprised that some radio stations may be wondering why this show is so popular, considering the awful shite they play (minus the CBC of course).

Well, Frank Black may not be as out there as some other artists, but when he comes to certain cities (whether they're large cities or just college cities), I expect that even .2% of the population is pretty big enough to sell tickets out. I mean, I've been surprised at some Pixies and Frank Black fans, just as people have been surprised that I've heard of them, too. He may not be so huge that everyone's heard, but the people who've heard of him mostly really, really don't want to miss a concert, so it's huge competition.

Like I said, Frank has his loyal following. The Pixies/Frank Black fans I've talked to in the city said they wouldnt miss this show for anything. In a city with 700,000 people, theres got to be a fair amount who have heard of The Pixies and/or Frank before. Personally, I'm not suprised at the success. Winnipeg has a pretty decent punk scene so I'm sure the word has gone around. Henry Rollins just played an insanely successful show here last night so I guess the old punk legends still have a place here in Manitoba

I thought that was a spoken-word "show". Did he actually play any music?

And I might take issue about classifying Frank Black as a former punk artist, but then again I'm a stubborn bastard. :)

CBC Radio 2 (FM) is at 98.9, IIRC

What is IIRC? 98.9 doesn't come in clearly.
