Matt Yelton has been touring with the catholics working the soundboards for at least the past three years.....last time they came my way i asked him, "why hasnt frank black released an album of live concert material, being that you can easily record great quality live stuff from the soundboard." matt responded that their last four albums have been live [live to 2 track] so frank feels no need to release live concert albums. ...anyway, i personally think (and i'm sure many of you may feel the same), that FB&Cs are really amazing live.....and although the live to 2 track sounds really neat, the energy of a live concert is quite different. its really shitty that so many bands who suck live, i mean really suck live, peddle their live concerts on cd when they shouldnt, while great bands who are great performers dont want to have anything to do with it.i'm not overcome with the urge to sneak recording equipment into shows or anything. i just like what i hear live. anyways, if any of you feel the same way, make it known... and hopefully the big guy will take our pleas into consideration.
...and evolving from the sea, would not be too much time for me, to walk beside you in the sun.... |

I had assumed since they recorded the last two on "FB&C's mobile recording studio" that they would just bring that shit with them and do it live. I know it's a hassle to do that, but they can't seem to make albums fast enough to keep up with Frank's writing and this way they could easily pump out an album a year. It wouldn't sound as good as say Dog in the Sand, but it could sound as good as Pistolero or Devil's Workshop.

If they were to do a real "Live" album to get the energy from a show recorded, they should do something like "Johnny RIvers - Live at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go" where they pick a cool venue and do a few nights there and edit into one continuous "live" show.
Those who mentioned the fact that the Live to 2 track albums are Live but don't seem that way are right. I love all those albums, but not a lot compares to the kind of recklessness/powerful feeling that they put across at good shows I've seen.

Another reason for the live concerts are the completely different versions of songs FB and the Cs do live nowadays. The songs realy HAVE evolved! Listened to the Bootlegs. Unlike in the Teenager of the Year and even the Pistolero tour, the Dog in the Sand tour and the BLD/DW tours showed radically new versions of old songs. I mean didja catch that great intro for 'Gauge Away' and the Catholicized version of 'Headache'? Plus, as Rich Gilbert said in an interview that was pblished here, FB&TCs are turning into a g-dead/Blues Traveller kind of band, where the live stuff is where the real Gold is. |

Hey ramona, i have a live version of monkey gone to heaven lying around somewhere (pixies era i think), unfortunately, most of the pixies and fb live stuff i have is pretty bad quality. Still, if you want it, mail me and we can organise something.

Should do that at their favourite venue "The Horseshoe" in Toronto last tour it was a five night stand and in April I am hoping to get more...
Also would like to say I consider the Live to 2 track albums to be pretty much live... they sound almost identicle to live FB&C live, but, the energy of some shows I have been luckey enough to catch would definitely contribute to a "real live" album...
At the end the day I would buy an album of Frank playing drums on the dashboard of his car reciting his shopping list... I'll be happy with anything MR. Black puts out...

Rich didn't say that... he said he understands why there are FB&C's trades on sites traditionally visited by fans of those bands. Rich then attributed the emergance of bootlegs on the site in question to FB&C's musicianship, ability to play so tight and make variations from their studio work...
So, if you waiting for Frank in a tie-dyed t-shirt bouncing around on Mushrooms playing a 45 minute version of Celia Ann it might be quite a while.

thanks a lot you guys......many of you feel the same as me ( as i suspected)....i was pretty satisfied with the studio recordings, but unless FB&C's plan to re-recorded the same version of "monkey gone to heaven" (with just two pedal steel guitars sliding back and forth) and the banging version of "six-sixty-six" they've been playing live, i think they should really release the live versions. live concerts allow them to bring a completely different tone to the recorded stuff, and i think many fans who dont get to see the live show that often are really missing out on some "golden moments"(without trying to sound like an infommercial for time-life music. anyways, hope the big man considers our pleas....
