Versus is a totally rad album, if ya aren't already hip to the 30 sec Real Audio clip. Rather than sing mere praise, though, I would like to inquire about Moving Parts and especially Roger Miller's solo albums (online reviews of the latter seem to be scarce). Also, does anyone have a compact disc of "The Bright Orange Years" he or she'd like to duplicate for me?
Again, Versus gets two BIG thumbs up from your friend and fellow Frank Black Forum patron. |

I always felt these guys were a less talented, sloppier version of Burning Airlines.

I haven't heard Burning Airlines (or Jawbox, for that matter), though they're probably in the back of my mind when I browse record stores. The typical response to your statement would be, "that's like saying the Stooges were a cruder, less artistic version of Nirvana". |

I hope that was meant as a joke. |

Nope. But since Burning Airlines is no more, I can't be so picky. I just think you should get both BA albums before heading over to the MoB section. Good rock is rare these days and you gotta take what you can get.

Too late for that. I went to the MoB section about 20 years ago. I bumped into Jay Robbins there. |

You know what? I'm an idiot. For some reason I read "Mission of Burma" and my brain started talking about "Jets to Brazil" who ARE a sloppier, less talented version of Burning Airlines. I've actually never heard MoB yet, can you recommend anything to initiate me?

While together, MoB made an EP, "Signals, Calls & Marches", and one album, "Vs.", as well as one or two currently out-of-print singles. Both the EP and the album are pretty much essential-listening. There are also some posthumous releases, which you can read about at www.allmusic.com (a great site for researching musical artists of practically all genres). I also recommend the Volcano Suns, the band that MoB drummer Peter Prescott started after the latter band broke up, though all Suns releases are pretty much out of print and exceptionally hard to find (unless you regularly browse E-Bay, that is). |

Also, check out www.missionofburma.com for info on the band's current reunion stint. They just might pop up in your town. |
