I've noticed that, in a plethora of FB songs, FB plays a three chord sequence, but each chord is played for the same number of beats.

Examples:

"I Heard Ramona Sing"
"Old Black Dawning"
"Thalassocracy" (the chorus with the line 'he had provisions')
"Calistan" (the verse)
"Superabound" (the verse with the two bass guitars)
"Men In Black" (the intro)
"You Ain't Me" (the verse with the line 'the money has been spent')
"The Cult of Ray" ('melting rock into metal')
"Do You Feel Bad About It" (the verse with 'let me tell you what...')
"Dog Gone" (the bridge part where he says 'No Memphis')
"I Gotta Move"
"Bullet" (the verse)
"If It Takes All Night" (part with the line 'I saw the ghost...')
"Ludwidshafen"

I'm sure there are other good examples, but the point is, if I were to write this on sheet music, would I have the songs in 4/4 and each chord be a measure? Would I write it in 6/8 time? Any other suggestions?

Fuck, I dunno. Good question. I usually just play. I bet some of FB's songs would look pretty damn nice on some sheet music though. It'd be really cool to look at.

Each chord a measure long: 4/4
Each chord half a measure long: 6/4

That's the common practice, I think. You would only use 8 as a denominator if there's a spare eighth note or if the song has a swing feel (some people would also use it for faster tempos, but that's kinda anal retentive IMO).

The bridge on I Don't Wanna Hurt You is 5/4, by the way.
