Well I for one like the fuck out of this.

Sounds like a real return to form thing going on there.

Now if only Pixies 2.0 was as good as Breeder 3.0.. (or are we on 4.0 now?)

I just the other night watched the Conan clip of Ween doing "I Can't Put My Finger On It", from like 95 maybe?

Glad to see Conan still putting on interesting stuff.

A whole two weeks to get bored with it? I moved on after about four listens.
Bedbug Posted - 03/23/2018 : 03:41:06
Well, it took a of couple weeks but I am now officially bored with All Nerve, just like with 2.0.

Trompe, TOTY, FB, and a bunch of 1.0 and FB&C stuff never get old. How to explain that?

A few years back whilst doing some research online I was convinced I had found the names of some early songs from the 1980s attributed to Kim (and possibly Kelley) on some songwriting website but having looked for it again numerous times I've never been able to find it again. No idea why I didn't write it down at the time :(

Aha! Just started reading 'Fool the World' and in it Kim describes copyrighting cassette tapes. Thanks to this quote I think I found the same info again, albeit a different source (copyright.gov)...

- 20 Aug 1980 - Gemini Collection - Kim/Kelley Deal
- 8 Jun 1981 - Gemini II - Kim Deal
- 20 Oct 1981 - Gemini III - Kim Deal
- 29 Jul 1981 - Gemini IV - Kim Deal
- 1 Mar 1982 - Gemini V - Kim/Kelley Deal
- 10 May 1982 - Gemini VI - Kim/Kelley Deal
- 1 Oct 1982 - Gemini VII - Kim/Kelley Deal
- 14 Nov 1983 - Gemini VIII - Kim/Kelley Deal
- 30 Jan 1984 - Diamonds in the Rough - Kim Deal

Cool.

Maybe someone will finally put their version of Gates Of Steel up on YouTube so I can hear it.

It's been nice feeling like it's still the 90's again though, even if it's in a small way.

See, again, this shows how important B-sides are, at least to us Charles / Kim nerds.

How 2.0 still hasn't given us much in the B-side department is mildly disappointing.

I think it is both slightly wild and more than a bit charming that in that French TV clip, both of the Deal sisters seem to have several large cheat sheets for each of the songs written on paper and scattered at their feet for them to refer to while they perform.

Kelley in particular seems completely focused on hers, and immediately rearranges them for the next song at the very end of the clip.

The whole thing makes me think of :

Return to sender, return to sender
I gave a letter to the postman, he put it his sack
Bright in early next morning, he brought my letter back
She wrote upon it
Return to sender, address unknown
No such number, no such zone
We had a quarrel, a lover's spat
I write I'm sorry but my letter keeps coming back
So then I dropped it in the mailbox and sent it special D
Bright in early next morning it came right back to me
She wrote upon it
Return to sender, address unknown
No such person, no such zone
This time I'm gonna take it myself and put it right in her hand
And if it comes back the very next day then I'll understand
The writing on it
Return to sender, address unknown
No such number, no such zone
Return to sender, return to sender
Return to sender, return to sender

BF often claimed (when asked about it). that he didn’t know Breeders music as well. My ass. They just don’t want to talk about this, that’s all.

They don’t get along. Big Woop-Dee-Doo.

Is the chronology as follows:

1) the four of them were working on IC together when Kim took everyone out to dinner and quit the band
2) they never spoke since then, but Pixies recorded a song about Kim
3) Kim knows about the song but hasn’t heard it

Am I missing anything?

She just disappeared like a ghost?
Bedbug Posted - 03/09/2018 : 09:24:21
That SMH interview was a tough read. Especially this:

The Pixies have gone on to make two albums without Deal, but the reviews have not been kind, with many critics pointing out Deal's absence as one of the main problems. In interviews for the last record, Thompson claimed the song All I Think About Is Now was a thank you to Deal. The fact that it was sung by her replacement Paz Lenchantin and shamelessly ripped off the classic Pixies' song Where Is My Mind right down to Deal's trademark high-pitched "oo-oo" refrain, made it sound more like a rip-off than a tribute. Not that you'll hear a bad word from Deal on the matter, who instead chooses to make a joke of it.
"I don't know the song, although I do know there's a story that they wrote a song about me. The Dandy Warhols wrote a song about me and I heard a Japanese band wrote a song about me too. I think that every band should write a song about me. I love it. It doesn't have to be nice. It can be a mean song. It can be a bad song. I don't even care."
